Immanuel Ebenezer Gerungan, widely known as Noel and the former Deputy Minister of Manpower, made a significant return to the Jakarta Anti-Corruption Court on Monday, May 18, for a crucial continuation of his trial. The primary agenda for this session was the highly anticipated reading of the prosecution’s demands by the KPK Public Prosecutors.
During the proceedings, KPK prosecutors sought a severe five-year prison sentence for Noel. They firmly asserted his guilt in the significant case involving alleged extortion and gratification pertaining to the management of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) certificates within the Ministry of Manpower. The prosecution’s conviction underscores the seriousness of the charges leveled against the former official.
Beyond the custodial sentence, Noel also faces substantial financial penalties. The prosecution demanded a fine of Rp 250 million, which would be commuted to an additional 90 days in jail if left unpaid. Furthermore, he was ordered to pay restitution totaling Rp 4,435,000,000. With Noel having already returned Rp 3 billion of the illicit gains, the outstanding amount of compensation remains at Rp 1,435,000,000.
