The official Instagram account of Indonesian rock icon Ahmad Dhani was compromised on Wednesday morning (May 6). The hacked profile was used to blast out fraudulent sales posts, ranging from luxury gold items to mobile phones, misleading his massive following.
Dhani expressed his outrage over the security breach, especially after learning that the cyber-attack resulted in a significant financial loss for an unsuspecting follower. The musician addressed the situation during a press conference held in Kemang, South Jakarta, alongside his legal representative, Aldwin Rahadian.
“Starting from 6:00 AM, the account was no longer under Mas Dhani’s control and was entirely outside of his responsibility. Because it was hacked, it was filled with sales content for various items—gold, mobile phones, and the like. It is clearly a scam, and unfortunately, there are already victims,” Aldwin Rahadian stated on Wednesday afternoon.
During the briefing, Dhani revealed that at least one person has officially confirmed being defrauded. According to the artist, this individual suffered a substantial financial blow amounting to tens of millions of rupiah.
“Someone has already transferred 40 million IDR. The latest report indicates a loss of 40 million; the victim transferred that amount to purchase gold through the hacked account,” Dhani explained.
In response to the incident, Dhani and his lawyer are preparing to file a formal report with the police. They are also reaching out to the victims of the scam to join forces in the legal pursuit against the hackers.
“I am inviting the victims to come forward. Their legal counsel has already contacted us, and we will report this together. Mas Dhani is a victim here, and so are the members of the public who were targeted in his name. We want this investigated immediately so the perpetrators can be found. This is a very dangerous situation,” Aldwin added.
Ahmad Dhani’s Losses
While the Instagram account has since been recovered, the father of five admitted that the ordeal has still left him at a disadvantage—though in a slightly more domestic sense.
Dhani shared that his Instagram account has now been “seized” by his wife, Mulan Jameela. The strict management follows a controversial post Dhani made just before the hack, in which he revisited his past with his ex-wife, Maia Estianty.
The post in question featured a legal document—a warrant to terminate an investigation (SP3)—related to past allegations of domestic psychological and physical violence. At the time of that original investigation years ago, Dhani had been named a suspect.
“I was certainly scolded by my family, especially by my wife, because of that last post. She said, ‘Why are you posting things like that again?’ And now, my account is actually being held by my wife. It’s quite sad for me,” Dhani concluded.
