Airbus teken kerja sama dengan RI, incar Indonesia jadi hub produksi

The Indonesian Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN)/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) has inked a strategic partnership with Airbus, marked by the signing of a Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) on Tuesday, May 6. Minister Rachmat Pambudy emphasized that this agreement aims to position Indonesia as a hub for aerospace industry production and bolster its standing within the global supply chain.

“The development of Indonesia’s aerospace industry must be comprehensive, extending beyond mere aircraft transactions and usage,” Minister Rachmat stated during the MoU signing at his office on Wednesday, May 6. “It needs to encompass a broader scope, including the entire major industrial supply chain.”

He further explained that a single aircraft, like the A320, comprises approximately 4 million components sourced from 30 different countries, including Indonesia. This underscores the critical importance of strengthening national industrial capabilities to transform Indonesia from merely a market into an active participant in the supply chain, contributing to value creation within the sector.

Minister Rachmat expressed his aspirations for PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) to ascend to the status of a Tier 1 supplier for Airbus, enabling it to produce key components such as A320 wings and contribute more significantly to future aircraft development.

Anand Stanley, President of Airbus Asia Pacific, highlighted that this collaboration signifies a new chapter in Airbus’s 50-year commitment to Indonesia.

He reiterated that Airbus’s focus extends beyond aircraft sales to fostering domestic industrial development. Airbus’s partnership with PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) dates back to 1976, with the production of the NC212 and NBO-105 aircraft.

“Today marks the next chapter to do even more,” Stanley remarked.

Stanley revealed that Airbus aims to establish Indonesia as a future production and export base. Currently, over 220 Airbus aircraft are in operation in Indonesia, underscoring the strategic significance of the domestic market.

“Airbus’s objective is to build Indonesia to export from Indonesia,” he stated.

Beyond the commercial sector, Airbus is also involved in developing the defense sector and support services like Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO). The company recognizes Indonesia’s substantial potential for growth in these industries, driven by the expanding aviation market.

He projected that Indonesia’s aviation market is poised for significant growth, potentially quadrupling by 2045, with an annual growth rate of approximately 7.4%. This anticipated expansion necessitates strengthening industrial capabilities, encompassing manufacturing, MRO, and human resource development.

“We see the need to build an industrial ecosystem that can support this growth,” Anand added.

Through the JDI, Airbus has pledged its commitment to supporting the enhancement of national industrial capacity via technology transfer, manufacturing reinforcement, and long-term human resource development.

Vivi Yulaswati, Deputy for Economy and Digital Transformation at the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas, described the JDI signing as a strategic government move to fortify the national aerospace industry ecosystem.

“Today’s JDI signing is a strategic step to strengthen Indonesia’s aerospace industry ecosystem,” Vivi stated.

She elaborated that the collaboration will concentrate on elevating industrial capacity, implementing international standards and licenses, and cultivating a high-tech industrial ecosystem powered by skilled human resources.

“Indonesia will continue to drive structural transformation through high-technology industries, with the aerospace sector specifically identified as a game-changer for national economic growth,” she concluded.
