On April 23, 2026, the Central Jakarta District Court sentenced actor Ammar Zoni to seven years in prison and imposed a fine of Rp 1 billion. The court found him guilty of acting as an intermediary in the sale and purchase of class I narcotics within the Salemba Detention Center.
Following the verdict, Ammar Zoni was transferred back to the High-Risk Correctional Facility in Nusakambangan. His brother, Aditya Zoni, recently opened up about the sudden nature of the relocation.
“He was moved in the early hours of last Saturday. We only found out the following morning when the prison authorities contacted us to inform us that Bang Ammar had already been transferred. We didn’t have the chance to communicate with him during his departure,” Aditya explained in Bendungan Hilir on Wednesday (May 13).
Aditya’s last conversation with his brother took place the Tuesday before the transfer. During that meeting, Ammar expressed profound fear, citing his previous traumatic experiences at the Nusakambangan facility.
“He has resigned himself to the situation, but the fear remains. He keeps telling me that he is traumatized by being sent back to Nusakambangan because he maintains that he is only a user, not a dealer,” Aditya shared. He added that Ammar described the harsh living conditions, noting, “He told me the sleeping arrangements were uncomfortable, with his legs forced to stay bent, and he even feared he might eventually become paralyzed due to the confinement.”

According to Ammar, his access to sunlight is severely restricted, which has significantly impacted his well-being. “He only gets to see the sun twice a week. He feels truly tortured there, and the trauma is evident. I can tell when my brother is lying versus when he is genuinely terrified, and in his eyes, I could see he was truly afraid of being sent back to that place,” Aditya added.

Despite these concerns, Ammar’s attorney, Jon Mathias, clarified that the return to Nusakambangan is a mandatory procedural step required for a necessary assessment. “This return is ultimately in his best interest. Otherwise, his high-risk status remains attached to him. To re-evaluate that status, he must undergo an assessment. He told me, ‘If this is what needs to be done, I am ready,’ and he had already prepared his belongings,” Jon stated.
The family remains hopeful that the assessment process will be swift, allowing Ammar to be moved back to a facility in Jakarta. “We hope the assessment results are released quickly so that it can serve as a bridge to request his transfer back to Jakarta,” Aditya concluded.
