KBRI Kuala Lumpur released a detailed chronology of the incident on Wednesday (March 11), outlining the events that unfolded at Lake Valley Bandar Tun Hussein Onn in Selangor, as well as the embassy staff’s courageous rescue efforts.

The unfortunate series of events began on March 9, 2026, when KBRI KL received a report from local residents concerning a homeless individual, suspected to be an Indonesian national, who had been observed in the public facilities of the area for several days. Responding swiftly to this distressing report, KBRI KL staff promptly departed for the location at 3:30 PM WIB on the same day.

Upon arrival, however, the embassy staff did not immediately find the individual. It was subsequently discovered that the man had left the initial location and was heading towards the nearby lake. Moments later, witnesses observed the Indonesian citizen tragically leaping into the waters of Lake Valley Bandar Tun Hussein Onn.

Witnessing this critical situation, the KBRI KL staff demonstrated remarkable bravery, heroically jumping into the lake in a desperate attempt to save the drowning man. Despite their valiant efforts, the difficult terrain and the challenges in reaching the victim made the rescue attempt unsuccessful. The individual’s presence became undetectable, a harrowing scene also witnessed by local residents.

Following the failed rescue, KBRI KL immediately coordinated with local police authorities. Shortly thereafter, the police arrived at the scene, accompanied by officers from Bomba, the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, to commence an initial search operation. As this preliminary search yielded no results, the Malaysian fire department deployed a specialized scuba team later that night, around 10:10 PM, to continue the search underwater. Through these persistent efforts, the victim was eventually discovered, tragically deceased.

The body of the deceased was subsequently transported to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital (HUKM) for further handling, including an autopsy. KBRI KL confirmed in its statement that its staff had provided an official testimony as witnesses to the Malaysian police regarding the incident.

KBRI KL extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased Indonesian citizen. The embassy continues to monitor the autopsy process at HUKM and is actively working to trace the individual’s family by coordinating closely with relevant agencies in Indonesia, ensuring all necessary support is provided during this difficult time.
