President Prabowo Subianto recently participated in a significant shrimp harvest, overseeing the collection of approximately 80 tons of shrimp at the Regional-Based Shrimp Cultivation (BUBK) facility in Kebumen, Central Java, on Saturday, May 23.
The harvested Vaname shrimp are primarily destined for export markets, with the majority heading to the United States, China, and Japan. Before reaching international destinations, the shrimp will undergo processing in Cirebon. This thriving aquaculture farm boasts an impressive annual production value, estimated at Rp 134.4 billion.
Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, affirmed that BUBK Kebumen’s operations and its harvest yields adhere to the highest industry best practices. Spanning 100 hectares, the BUBK Kebumen complex features 139 production ponds and has successfully completed eight harvest cycles to date.
“This eighth harvest cycle proves that the yields per hectare have met the best targets. By fulfilling all industry standards, we can achieve success. Today (yesterday), the harvest amounted to approximately 80 tons,” Trenggono stated at the BUBK Kebumen grand harvest location on Saturday, May 23.

To consistently achieve these stringent best practices, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has optimized the stocking density of the ponds. Furthermore, the cultivation activities are bolstered by advanced technological support, including sophisticated water intake systems, reservoirs, separate inlet and outlet channels, and a comprehensive Wastewater Treatment Plant (IPAL). These measures collectively ensure that the entire production process is environmentally safe and sustainable.
Minister Trenggono also highlighted the continuous challenges in maintaining best practices, specifically emphasizing the importance of consistently preserving the quality of water used for cultivation and ensuring a steady supply of high-quality shrimp seeds.
“Additionally, the feed provided must be effective; these are crucial aspects that must be diligently maintained,” Trenggono explained.
The shrimp harvested during this eighth cycle, since BUBK Kebumen’s inauguration in 2023, measured between 22 and 30 count. With an average selling price of Rp 70,000 per kilogram, the entire harvest has already been successfully purchased by local businesses, underscoring the strong market demand for Kebumen’s premium shrimp.
