Despite the ongoing handling process, the DLH reassured the public that waste management services would continue to operate without interruption. To facilitate this, a temporary disposal point at TPST Bantargebang was opened during the night to maintain the smooth rotation of waste trucks arriving from Jakarta. Simultaneously, efforts were underway to prepare two additional disposal points for future use, ensuring operational resilience amidst the disruption.

“We are currently requesting all ranks of the South Jakarta Environmental Agency (Sudin LH) to temporarily postpone waste shipments to TPST Bantargebang until the evacuation process is completed,” stated Asep Kuswanto, Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, in an official statement on Monday, March 9th. This strategic measure was implemented to ensure Jakarta’s crucial waste transportation system remained functional while effectively minimizing truck queues during the critical evacuation and recovery operations in the affected area.

Asep further emphasized the DKI Provincial Government’s commitment: “The DKI Provincial Government is dedicated to addressing this situation swiftly, carefully, and in a highly coordinated manner. Our unwavering focus remains on safety, victim handling, and ensuring that Jakarta’s waste management operations can promptly and securely return to normal.” This holistic approach highlights the multi-faceted response to the unexpected environmental challenge.

Evacuation
Regarding the complex evacuation process, Asep confirmed that the agency swiftly activated an emergency response operation immediately upon receiving reports of the incident. A robust joint team, comprising personnel from Yon Armed 7/155 GS Kodam Jaya, BPBD DKI Jakarta, BPBD Bekasi City, the Bekasi City Fire Department, Bantargebang Police, and Koramil 05/Bantargebang, was promptly deployed to assist in rescuing victims. “As soon as the incident was reported, we immediately activated our emergency response operations. Our top priorities are the safety of our officers, the handling of victims, and the expedited evacuation of vehicles buried by the landslide,” Asep elaborated, underscoring the immediate actions taken at the site. The combined forces worked diligently to address these critical objectives, ensuring a focused and efficient response.

During the ongoing evacuation operation, out of a total of seven trucks impacted by the landslide, five units have already been successfully recovered. Efforts are still concentrated on evacuating the remaining two trucks, which were driven by Riki Supriyadi from the North Jakarta LH Sub-agency and Irwan Supriyatin. The joint team continues its intensive work at the location, employing all available resources to accelerate the complete evacuation process.

To bolster these crucial operations, the DLH, in collaboration with the joint team, mobilized an impressive fleet of 13 excavators and stationed two ambulances from both the DLH and the Bekasi City Government. This equipment is being utilized simultaneously to clear the vast piles of landslide material, significantly speeding up the critical evacuation efforts and enabling access to the buried vehicles.

Casualties
The latest data tragically confirms that four individuals lost their lives in this unfortunate incident. Asep Kuswanto expressed profound condolences regarding the loss of life, conveying the deep sorrow felt by the authorities.

“We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences for this calamity. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government conveys its heartfelt sympathy to the victims’ families and assures them that all emergency handling processes are being conducted swiftly and with utmost coordination,” Asep stated, highlighting the government’s compassionate response to the tragedy. This commitment to support extends beyond the immediate emergency.

Asep further detailed the support measures, confirming that all deceased Other Individual Service Providers (PJLP) staff would receive compensation through BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. Additionally, the regional government will cover the medical expenses for those who sustained injuries. These provisions ensure that the families of the victims receive essential financial and medical support during this difficult time.

“Furthermore, social compensation will also be provided to other affected victims, including stall owners and scavengers who are not classified as PJLP,” Asep revealed, ensuring a broad safety net of support for everyone impacted by the devastating Bantargebang landslide.
