The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) has formally responded to the South Jakarta District Court’s recent ruling, which mandates the police to recommence legal proceedings in the egregious acid attack case targeting KontraS Deputy Coordinator, Andrie Yunus. Speaking on Tuesday, June 2, Head of the TNI Information Center, Brigadier General Muhammad Nas, affirmed the institution’s unwavering respect for the judicial decision. He stated, “In principle, the TNI honors the court’s decision and acknowledges all applicable legal processes.”
Brigadier General Nas further clarified that the TNI is currently awaiting the police’s subsequent actions regarding this significant ruling. He assured that the armed forces would actively “support legal processes in accordance with applicable provisions,” emphasizing that any matters requiring coordination with the TNI would be promptly addressed “according to existing mechanisms and authorities.”
This crucial legal challenge originated from the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), acting as the petitioner on behalf of Andrie Yunus. The lawsuit was filed against the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya), named as the respondent.
The pre-trial lawsuit was specifically initiated by Yunus’s legal team to address allegations of undue delay and the purported silent termination of the investigation by Polda Metro Jaya. The police had previously transferred the entire case to the TNI Military Police Center (Puspom TNI) after identifying four members of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS TNI) as the direct perpetrators involved in the attack.
Through this pre-trial petition, Andrie Yunus’s legal counsel urged the judicial panel to instruct Polda Metro Jaya to reopen the criminal investigation within the general court system. Compelling CCTV evidence, presented to the court, strongly suggests the involvement of up to 16 individuals in the terror act, including suspected civilians and intellectual masterminds who have, thus far, evaded justice.
In a landmark decision, Judge Suparna affirmed the petitioner’s legal standing to file the request and partially granted the petition. The court explicitly “ordered the Respondent to continue the legal process pertaining to police report number LP/A/222/III/2026/Sat Reskrim/Restro Jakpus/Polda Metro Jaya, dated March 13, 2026,” thereby mandating the police to resume the investigation into the Andrie Yunus acid attack case.

Earlier, both Polda Metro Jaya and the TNI had launched separate, simultaneous investigations into the brutal acid attack. The case was eventually handed over by Polda Metro Jaya to Puspom TNI, primarily because the identified perpetrators were active military personnel.
Four soldiers have been implicated in this serious incident: Sergeant Second Class Edi Sudarko, First Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetyo, and First Lieutenant Sami Lakka. These individuals are presently facing military court proceedings.

Brigadier General Muhammad Nas, Head of the TNI Information Center, affirmed the institution’s acknowledgment of the judicial decision and committed to supporting the legal processes.
