The Head of the Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force (PRR), Muhammad Tito Karnavian, has highlighted President Prabowo Subianto’s profound commitment to swiftly addressing the needs of disaster survivors and accelerating rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in the provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra (Sumut), and West Sumatra (Sumbar), following devastating floods and landslides.
This significant presidential focus was revealed by Tito after he accompanied President Prabowo Subianto for Idul Fitri 1447 H/2026 prayers. The prayers were held alongside community members affected by the disaster at the Darussalam Mosque, situated within the temporary housing complex (huntara) in Karang Baru, Aceh Tamiang, Aceh, on Saturday, March 21, 2026. This gathering underscored the President’s personal engagement with those impacted by the natural calamities.
Tito further disclosed that President Prabowo had long harbored a desire to perform Idul Fitri prayers with displaced persons in disaster-stricken areas. His intention was to extend a gesture of solidarity during the sacred Lebaran celebration, sharing this important moment with the affected communities across Sumatra.
Reflecting on the President’s choice, Tito stated, “Several locations were prepared for the President, but he specifically chose a place where displaced persons resided, opting for the mosque within the temporary housing complex built by Danantara. Alhamdulillah, we are grateful that everything proceeded smoothly.” This decision showcased Prabowo’s genuine empathy and dedication to the survivors.
The President’s presence among the disaster survivors during the Lebaran festivities, Tito affirmed, serves as compelling evidence that President Prabowo has not wavered in his attention to the ongoing rehabilitation efforts across the three affected regions. These areas are now beginning to show significant progress across various recovery indicators, a testament to sustained focus and support.
“This represents his extraordinary dedication, especially during the very sacred month of Ramadan,” Tito explained, adding, “His decision to perform Idul Fitri prayers alongside the displaced persons in Aceh Tamiang was a powerful symbol of his unwavering commitment.”
According to Tito, President Prabowo consistently strives to be present with post-disaster survivors during crucial public celebrations. This pattern of compassionate leadership was previously demonstrated when he marked the New Year 2026 with disaster-affected communities in South Tapanuli (Tapsel), North Sumatra, further solidifying his connection with those in need.
During the visit, Tito conveyed President Prabowo’s heartfelt appreciation to all cross-sectoral stakeholders who have tirelessly worked on rehabilitation and reconstruction in every sector. Their concerted efforts have enabled the affected regions to significantly recover in terms of physical infrastructure, electricity supply, fuel provision, and essential services such as healthcare and education. Moreover, the economic sector is showing clear signs of revival, marked by increased market activity and trade.
“President Prabowo expressed his appreciation because the situation is now nearing normality,” Tito emphasized. He added, “We will continue our work to resolve several remaining issues, such as making roads and bridges permanent, normalizing rivers, and ensuring that educational facilities are fully restored.”
As a crucial next step, Tito outlined plans to accelerate the relocation of the remaining displaced families in Aceh Tamiang. Currently, 26 families are still residing in temporary tents and will soon be moved to suitable housing. Furthermore, while foundational infrastructure is being completed, the PRR Task Force will expedite the rehabilitation of damaged fish ponds and rice fields belonging to residents. These agricultural assets were severely impacted by floods and landslides in various areas across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
“We are also working diligently on the next phase, which involves providing permanent housing (Huntap)—both in-situ solutions managed by BNPB and larger communal complexes. I have held multiple meetings with the Minister of Housing and Residential Areas (PKP), and we plan to execute these initiatives immediately after Lebaran,” Tito confirmed, signaling a robust action plan.
