A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday, May 30th, in Sukamulya Village, Cikupa District, Tangerang Regency, where a teenage girl identified only by her initial, J, tragically lost her life. She succumbed to a devastating Tangerang workshop fire after becoming trapped inside a bathroom within the premises.
The unfortunate event occurred around 3:00 PM WIB. J had reportedly visited the workshop and was seated in the rear section, occupied with her mobile phone. At the time, two witnesses, Tri and Ade, were actively engaged in motorcycle repairs within the workshop area.
According to Ipda Syaiful Rusdiansyah, the Head of the Cikupa Police Criminal Investigation Unit, witness Ade was in the process of repairing a motorcycle. He was reportedly using a portable gas cylinder to heat or “burn” a “Shield Water Pump,” a component of the motorcycle. Simultaneously, witness Tri was cleaning a motorcycle fuel tank nearby.
It was under these precarious conditions that the flame ignited by Ade inadvertently sparked, catching fire to Tri’s motorcycle tank. Startled by the sudden blaze, Tri instinctively reacted by throwing the burning tank further into the workshop. This impulsive action quickly escalated the situation, causing the flames to rapidly intensify and engulf the interior of the workshop.
As a direct consequence of the escalating inferno, J, who was in the rear area of the workshop, found herself tragically trapped. She desperately sought refuge inside the bathroom, hoping to escape the encroaching flames. However, the intensity and rapid expansion of the fire proved too overwhelming, ultimately claiming her life. She was later discovered deceased, in a seated position, within the bathroom.
Following the tragic discovery, J’s body was promptly evacuated and transported to RSUD Balaraja. Firefighters from the BPBD Tangerang Regency swiftly responded, deploying two fire engines to the scene. The blaze was successfully extinguished by 3:30 PM WIB, just 30 minutes after its initial eruption. Authorities have since concluded that the fire originated from a motorcycle undergoing repairs. The incident was reportedly triggered when carburetor cleaning fluid was sprayed during the repair process, igniting and causing the fire to spread rapidly throughout the surrounding area.
