Jakarta, IDN Times – Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has issued a resolute prohibition against “Sahur on The Road” (SOTR) activities that pose a significant risk of public disorder and disturbances during Ramadan. This firm stance was articulated in response to journalists’ inquiries concerning the brawls and conflicts frequently associated with SOTR events.
The Governor underscored that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s (Pemprov) paramount principle is to uphold the security and comfort of all residents throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
“I will not permit anything that creates vulnerability or causes disturbances. However, activities that foster comfort, I will certainly allow. Anything that causes issues, absolutely not,” Pramono stated on Saturday, February 14, 2026.
1. Firm Action Against Risky Activities 
The DKI Pemprov clarified that this prohibition is not an outright ban on all SOTR activities. Rather, it specifically targets events that disrupt public order, which will face stringent enforcement. In recent years, SOTR has frequently drawn scrutiny due to its tendency to escalate into inter-group clashes or create severe traffic disruptions, making the potential security risks undeniable.
Governor Pramono reiterated the Provincial Government’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of all Jakarta citizens throughout the Ramadan period. This approach aims to strike a balance, allowing for community spirit while ensuring peace and stability.
2. Addressing the Issue of Mass Organization Sweeping 
Beyond SOTR, Pramono also addressed concerns regarding potential “sweeping” operations by mass organizations targeting eateries as Ramadan approaches. He emphasized that the advent of Ramadan must be celebrated in a spirit of peace, harmony, and mutual respect.
“The period celebrating Chinese New Year runs from the 13th to the 17th. Then, on the 18th, Jakarta’s entire landscape will transform to embrace Ramadan and also welcome Eid al-Fitr,” Pramono elaborated, highlighting the city’s transition.
3. Zero Tolerance for Sweeping Operations 
Pramono affirmed that the Provincial Government has implemented comprehensive surveillance and security measures for both Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. He explicitly stated that any form of “sweeping” by mass organizations or other parties will not be tolerated or permitted.
“Naturally, as Governor, I am responsible for this, and I will not permit any sweeping activities,” Pramono firmly declared. The DKI Pemprov is dedicated to maintaining public order and ensuring that all residents can observe their Ramadan prayers and traditions in a secure and comfortable environment.
