Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rojiun. On behalf of the DKI Jakarta Province, I express profound sorrow over the demise of Ardhi Suryaputra, a student of SMK 34 Jakarta, who was involved in a single-vehicle traffic accident this morning,” Governor Pramono Anung conveyed to reporters at the DKI Jakarta City Hall. This solemn declaration underscored the gravity of the incident and the provincial government’s shared grief.

The fatal incident took place on Jalan Raya Matraman, East Jakarta, at approximately 6:00 AM WIB. According to Governor Pramono, a review of CCTV footage confirmed that the accident was primarily caused by treacherous road conditions, specifically a combination of slippery surfaces and dangerous potholes. “Our monitoring of the CCTV footage clearly indicates that the accident was due to slippery and severely potholed roads, compounded by high speed. This confirms it as a single-vehicle accident,” Pram explained, highlighting critical issues in road safety.

Immediately following the accident, Ardhi was rushed to RS Polri Kramat Jati, accompanied by Nahdiana, the Head of DKI Education Department, and Sulistiyani, the Principal of SMKN 34 Jakarta. The victim’s body has since been transported to the funeral home and is awaiting imminent burial. Governor Pramono assured the public that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government would bear all hospital and funeral costs, demonstrating comprehensive support for the grieving family. He further confirmed, “We have also made arrangements for the burial, which will be facilitated by the DKI Jakarta government at TPU Menteng Pulo.”

In a resolute move to prevent similar tragedies, Governor Pramono has issued a direct order to the DKI Bina Marga Department. He instructed them to immediately address and close all potholes across the city, emphasizing that these crucial road maintenance efforts should not be delayed by waiting for rain to subside. “Despite the unpredictable rainfall expected until around the 18th or 19th, with sometimes heavy downpours, I have directed that all roads with potholes be sealed, even if temporarily,” Pram asserted, underscoring the urgency of improving public safety infrastructure.

The Governor also took the opportunity to issue a strong warning to the general public, urging heightened caution, particularly when navigating sections of roads known to be damaged or riddled with potholes. “We are asking the community to be repeatedly reminded, through the Jakarta Kominfotik Department, that there are currently several hazardous road sections with potholes, and extreme caution is advised,” Pram concluded, reiterating the collective responsibility in ensuring road safety for all Jakarta residents.
