This crucial regulation, titled “Prevention and Counter-Terrorism of Violence-Based Extremism Leading to Terrorism 2026-2029,” was formalized on February 9, 2026.
According to Article 2, Perpres No. 8/2026 is designed to be effective for a four-year period, providing a comprehensive national guideline. It mandates a synchronized approach across various governmental tiers, serving as an indispensable directive for ministries, national agencies, and local governments in their coordinated efforts to prevent and counter violence-based extremism that could escalate into terrorism.

Concurrently, President Prabowo Subianto also signed Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 9 of 2026 on February 9, 2026, which pertains to the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) 
. This regulation notably strengthens the BNPT’s operational capacity by introducing a new deputy position, as stipulated in Article 7.
Article 14 specifies the critical responsibilities of this newly created role: the Deputy for National Preparedness and Counter-Radicalization. This deputy is charged with spearheading the formulation, coordination, and execution of national counter-terrorism policies, strategies, and programs.
