President Prabowo Subianto recently hosted prominent American billionaire Ray Dalio at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday, March 27. The high-level meeting centered on strategies for promoting various Indonesian projects to the international market, aiming to bolster foreign investment and economic collaboration.
Details regarding the significant discussions were subsequently revealed by Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, who was also present during the crucial talks. Minister Purbaya indicated that Dalio’s involvement extends to assisting Indonesia in its outreach efforts on the global stage.
“I accompanied Mr. President in meeting and receiving Mr. Ray Dalio. He appears to be helping us promote Indonesia abroad,” Purbaya stated after the meeting. He further elaborated on the focus areas, adding, “There are existing projects with investors from Singapore and several domestic initiatives that are being accelerated to ensure faster implementation and growth.”
The promoted initiatives, according to Purbaya, largely fall within the energy sector. He specifically mentioned projects related to solar power plants (PLTS) as a key area of focus for potential investment. While confirming the general theme, he noted, “It seems to be related to PLTS. That appears to be the case, but I need to study the details further.”
Beyond renewable energy, the discussions also highlighted the promotion of Special Economic Zones (KEK). Minister Purbaya announced plans for the establishment of an additional KEK, specifically designed to significantly attract international investors. “I don’t fully understand the specifics, but essentially, one more Special Economic Zone will be added to make it more appealing for investors to enter,” he explained.
Furthermore, Purbaya emphasized that Ray Dalio offered valuable input on projects poised to accelerate Indonesia’s economic engine. In response to potential delays, Purbaya assured, “If there are slow projects, as he mentioned earlier, we will handle them with our dedicated debottlenecking team. We are committed to resolving them quickly.” This commitment underscores the government’s proactive approach to ensuring efficient project execution and fostering rapid economic growth in Indonesia.
