Two high-ranking officers from the North Toraja Resort Police, including the Head of its Narcotics Unit, AKP Arifan Efendi, and his subordinate, Aiptu Nasrul AP, have been placed under special detention (patsus). This drastic measure comes amidst serious allegations of their involvement in a drug trafficking case in Toraja, with Efendi specifically suspected of backing drug dealers operating within his jurisdiction.
The allegations have prompted a swift and stern response from the South Sulawesi Regional Police (Polda Sulsel). Kombes Pol Zulham Effendy, Head of the Professional and Security Division (Propam) of Polda Sulsel, confirmed that both criminal and ethical proceedings will be initiated against Arifan Efendi. Emphasizing the police force’s zero-tolerance policy, Effendy stated, “Any officer involved in narcotics-related issues will face criminal and ethical processing. There is no room for compromise, especially concerning drug matters.”
The unraveling of this serious alleged police drug involvement began with the arrest of suspect ET alias O by the Tana Toraja Resort Police Narcotics Unit on January 28, 2026. During interrogation, ET alias O revealed an ongoing flow of funds from a drug network directly to police officers within the North Toraja Resort Police. Specifically, ET alias O confessed to making weekly payments of Rp13 million to the implicated officers.
Following this startling revelation, the Polda Sulsel’s Propam Division swiftly initiated a thorough investigation. The findings led to the immediate detention of AKP Arifan Efendi and Aiptu Nasrul AP in special confinement. This detention follows their implication in the Toraja drug case through an official Investigation Report (BAP), which directly connects them to a major drug dealer in the region. Kombes Pol Zulham Effendy further confirmed the situation, stating, “Indeed, we (Polda Sulsel) have secured them and placed them in special detention for initial examination.”
As the investigation into this sensitive matter progresses, Kombes Pol Zulham Effendy urges the public to remain patient for the ongoing examination results. He emphatically reiterated that there is absolutely no place for officers involved in misconduct, particularly concerning narcotics. The investigation will thoroughly delve into the extent of their involvement and their respective roles within the alleged drug distribution network, ensuring that justice is served.
