The leadership, several deputies, and the spokesperson of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) have been formally reported to the KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas) by the DPP Advokat Persaudaraan Islam (API). This action stems from the controversial decision to change the detention status of former Minister of Religious Affairs, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, also known as Gus Yaqut, from institutional detention to house arrest. Yaqut is a suspect in an alleged haj quota corruption case.
This marks the second instance of such a report. Previously, the KPK leadership and deputies faced a similar complaint lodged with the Dewas by the Masyarakat Anti Korupsi Indonesia (MAKI), indicating persistent public scrutiny over the matter.
In response to the latest filing by DPP API, KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo acknowledged the legitimacy of the action. “The KPK views the report submitted to the Supervisory Board as perfectly legitimate,” Budi told reporters on Friday, March 27th.

Budi emphasized that such reports represent a vital mechanism for public control, a right guaranteed by prevailing laws and regulations. He further articulated, “Public participation is a crucial manifestation of the KPK’s anti-corruption mandate, ensuring the principles of transparency and accountability are rigorously applied.”

The spokesperson expressed confidence that the KPK Dewas would conduct an objective, independent, and professional assessment of the report. He highlighted that this review process is an integral part of the institutional checks and balances system, essential for upholding the integrity and accountability of the anti-corruption body.
Moreover, Budi firmly stated, “The KPK assures that all processes and steps taken in handling this case have been executed strictly in accordance with established mechanisms, procedures, and the provisions of applicable laws and regulations.” This statement underscores the commission’s commitment to due process amidst the public outcry.
The DPP API report was personally submitted by its Chairman, Aziz Yanuar, who also serves as legal counsel for Emmanuel Ebenezer, alias Noel, the former Deputy Minister of Manpower implicated in an extortion case. The report was officially received on Friday, March 27th.
