This persistent endeavor was notably highlighted during the military court’s latest session on Wednesday, May 6, which focused on witness examinations for the high-profile acid attack case.

Presiding over the proceedings, Colonel Chk Fredy Ferdian Isnartanto, the head judge for the acid attack case, initiated the session by directly inquiring about the status of Andrie Yunus’s summons to court.

The military prosecutor then elaborated, revealing that a formal letter had been dispatched to the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) on April 30, specifically requesting Andrie’s presence in court.

However, the LPSK responded to the prosecutor’s request on May 4, indicating that Andrie was currently unable to attend the trial due to ongoing medical procedures.

“The LPSK informed us that Mr. Andrie Yunus cannot yet appear as a witness in this trial, as an additional witness, because he is still scheduled to undergo medical procedures planned by his doctors to address his specific needs,” the prosecutor quoted from the LPSK’s response.

The prosecutor further revealed that Andrie requires a critical skin grafting procedure as a direct consequence of the acid attack, necessitating his absence from the proceedings. Andrie Yunus Still Recovering, Military Court Judge Should Not Force Summons

“Today, there are medical procedures; either surgery or ongoing treatment. The information from the LPSK indicates a skin grafting operation is involved,” the prosecutor clarified.

Despite this, Judge Fredy firmly instructed the prosecutor to persist in efforts to secure Andrie’s attendance at the subsequent acid attack trial, which is currently scheduled for May 13, 2026.

“We will summon him again, as today and tomorrow will undoubtedly be dedicated to recovery and treatment. Perhaps we can re-issue the summons for the 13th. Judge Fredy underscored the critical importance of Andrie’s testimony, given his direct role as the victim of the brutal acid attack.

He even suggested that if a physical appearance at Military Court II-08 Jakarta proved impossible, Andrie’s testimony could potentially be facilitated via a Zoom video conference.

Furthermore, Fredy proposed the court consider an on-site examination at Andrie’s medical care facility to record his vital statement.

He urged the military prosecutor to collaborate closely with both the LPSK and the treating hospital to find a viable method for the court to receive Andrie’s crucial testimony in this acid attack case.

“We are simply seeking the victim’s account, as it holds paramount importance for this trial,” Fredy emphasized.

Meanwhile, the four defendants accused of the acid attack on Andrie were present in court and will be afforded the opportunity to present their defense should any witness statements contradict their accounts.

These four defendants have been identified as Sergeant Second Class Edi Sudarko (ES), First Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi (BHW), Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetyo (NDP), and First Lieutenant Sami Lakka (SL).

The military prosecutor has charged the acid attack defendants under multiple articles of the Criminal Code (KUHP): Article 469 paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 20 letter c, Article 468 paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 20 letter c, and Article 467 paragraph 1 in conjunction with paragraph 2, also in conjunction with Article 20 letter c.
