The Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) is poised to implement a national one-way traffic scheme along the Trans-Java Toll Road, spanning from Kilometer 70 to Kilometer 414, to manage the anticipated surge during the Eid al-Fitr exodus. This significant traffic management measure is scheduled to commence on Wednesday, March 18, at 12:00 PM Western Indonesian Time (WIB), a proactive response to the escalating volume of vehicles heading towards the critical Trans-Java route.
The formal launch of this comprehensive national one-way scheme is expected to be led directly by the Minister of Transportation, marked by an official flag-off ceremony. Kakorlantas Polri, Inspector General Pol. Agus Suryo Nugroho, confirmed these plans, underscoring the coordinated effort to ensure smooth and orderly traffic flow during this peak travel period.
As of Tuesday evening, Inspector General Agus reported that despite a discernible increase in vehicle volume, traffic conditions remain largely under control. Speaking from the Korlantas Polri PJR Command Center at Kilometer 29 Cikarang, West Java, on Tuesday, March 17, he noted, “We can monitor the situation, and just now we monitored it again; it is quite controlled, and the traffic surge continues to increase as the night progresses.” He further elaborated on the upcoming national one-way implementation, adding, “So, that’s roughly the one-way scheme. What’s clear is that tomorrow, perhaps led directly by the Minister of Transportation, the flag-off for the national one-way scheme for the Eid al-Fitr exodus will be held at 12:00 PM.”
In preparation for the national rollout, Korlantas had already initiated a partial one-way scheme earlier on Tuesday afternoon. This preliminary measure was implemented from Kilometer 70 to Kilometer 263 of the Trans-Java Toll Road. Its primary objective was to effectively alleviate congestion resulting from the substantial number of vehicles departing Jakarta and moving eastward, thus facilitating a smoother journey for travelers.
Additionally, a contraflow traffic engineering measure was also put into effect on Tuesday night along the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, specifically from Kilometer 55 to Kilometer 70, directing traffic towards the Trans-Java route. This tactical deployment aimed to maintain the fluidity and efficiency of the continuously increasing vehicle flow. Inspector General Agus explained, “Tonight, from Kilometer 55 to 70, we are also implementing contraflow to manage the flow of traffic heading towards Trans-Java.”
Korlantas has emphasized its unwavering commitment to continuous monitoring and real-time evaluation of traffic conditions. This vigilant approach includes the possibility of extending the one-way scheme should there be further significant surges in vehicle volume. Inspector General Agus concluded, “Will there be a peak flow tonight? We will coordinate with the CEO of Jasa Marga. If there is another traffic surge, it is possible we will extend the one-way. However, if it has subsided, we will continue to evaluate it,” affirming their adaptive strategy to manage traffic throughout the critical Eid al-Fitr travel period.
