KontraS: Penyiraman Air Keras Andrie Yunus Pembunuhan Berencana

The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), following its independent investigation into the recent acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus, has unequivocally labeled the incident an attempted murder. TAUD suspects that a vast and sophisticated network orchestrated the assault.

“We suspect that the premeditated attempted murder of Andrie Yunus involves a larger, systematic, and well-trained network,” stated Jane Rosalina, Head of the Impunity Monitoring Division at KontraS, in a written statement released on Friday, March 20.

Jane further revealed that TAUD’s investigation identified more than four perpetrators, believed to have communicated extensively before carrying out the brutal assault. This finding significantly diverges from official reports.

“TAUD’s independent investigation identified dozens of alleged perpetrators who are strongly suspected of coordinating throughout the night of the incident, as observed from YLBHI’s surveillance cameras. This number is drastically higher than the four perpetrators reported by both the police and the TNI Military Police Center (Puspom TNI),” Jane emphasized.

The sheer number of individuals implicated in the attack reinforces the suspicion that the assault on Andrie Yunus was a large-scale operation. “The discovery of dozens of suspected perpetrators indicates that this was a major, structured, and organized operation driven by parties holding significant authority,” Jane asserted.

Furthermore, TAUD’s probe uncovered civilian involvement in the case, noting one individual recorded wearing an online motorcycle taxi jacket near YLBHI several hours prior to the attack. This civilian perpetrator, referred to as OTK 3, was identified as the second motorcyclist trailing Andrie Yunus at the scene, wearing a blue helmet.

The confirmed participation of civilians has prompted TAUD to advocate for the case to be tried in a general court. “It is critically important that the legal enforcement process in this case remains under the jurisdiction of a general court for the sake of transparency and accountability of law enforcement itself,” she stated.

President Urged to Form a Fact-Finding Team

In its statement, TAUD urgently called on President Prabowo Subianto to establish an independent Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF). This team, TAUD suggests, should comprise elements from civil society, law enforcement, and community leaders. Such a measure is deemed essential due to the conflicting information emerging from Polda Metro Jaya and Puspom TNI, both of whom are investigating the Andrie Yunus case.

“Immediately form an independent Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF) involving civil society elements through the issuance of a Presidential Decree (Keppres) that provides a clear mandate and authority,” Jane urged.

TAUD outlined three crucial points for President Prabowo Subianto concerning the acid attack on Andrie Yunus:

  1. Urgently establish an independent Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF) involving civil society through a Presidential Decree (Keppres) that grants a clear mandate and authority.

  2. Immediately instruct the National Police Chief and the TNI Commander to ensure a thorough investigation and prosecution of all individuals involved, both field operatives and intellectual actors. This is vital to demonstrate President Prabowo Subianto‘s commitment to just law enforcement and human rights.

  3. Guarantee that the investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators are conducted through the general judicial system, not military courts. This commitment would mark a pivotal first step for the state to break the chain of impunity. Failure to do so would imply the state’s intention to perpetuate impunity and protect the perpetrators and their intellectual masterminds.

Prabowo Demands Thorough Investigation

President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has firmly declared that the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus constitutes a serious criminal act akin to terrorism. He emphasized the necessity of a comprehensive investigation to uncover the masterminds behind the heinous incident.

“This is terrorism. This is a barbaric act. We must pursue it. We must investigate it. We must investigate it!” Prabowo asserted, as reported in a press release from the Government Communication Agency (Bakom) RI.

The President stressed that law enforcement must not halt at identifying the field perpetrators but must also unveil the intellectual actors orchestrating the event, including “who ordered, who paid,” he concluded.

Polda Metro Jaya Committed to Resolving the Case

The Chief of Polda Metro Jaya, Inspector General of Police Asep Edi Suheri, has pledged that his agency will conduct a thorough investigation into the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus, which occurred on March 12.

“We need to emphasize that in handling this case, we, from Polda Metro Jaya and the National Police Headquarters, in accordance with the instructions of Mr. President and Mr. National Police Chief, are committed to carrying out all processes objectively, transparently, and accountably,” stated Inspector General Asep during a press conference at the Polda Metro Jaya headquarters on Wednesday, March 18.

To date, Polda Metro Jaya has identified two alleged perpetrators, initials BAC and MAK, who are believed to be the executors of the acid attack.

TNI Pledges Transparency

Concurrently, Major General TNI Yusri Nuryanto, Commander of the TNI Military Police Center (Puspom TNI), assured the public of the military’s commitment to transparency in investigating the acid attack on Andrie Yunus.

“So trust us that we will act professionally, we will be transparent, and we will continue to invite media colleagues at every stage,” Yusri stated during a press conference at TNI Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Wednesday, March 18.

Yusri further affirmed that Puspom TNI would operate professionally and communicate all phases of the investigation process to the public. “So we ask for your patience. Regarding the transparency of this investigation, Puspom TNI will work professionally. We will later explain the stages, from the investigation process, then the submission of files to the Odmil (High Military Prosecutor’s Office), and ultimately through to the trial process,” he elaborated.

Significantly, the TNI has confirmed the involvement of its own members in the case. Four perpetrators are identified as members of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS TNI), drawn from two military branches: the Navy (AL) and the Air Force (AU).
