KAI Hiring Railway Crossing Guards: Requirements and Application Guide

JAKARTA — PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), through its subsidiary PT KA Properti Manajemen, has officially opened recruitment for Railway Level Crossing Gatekeepers. Interested candidates are invited to submit their applications between May 13 and May 18, 2026.

According to the official KAI Properti website, this recruitment drive aims to fulfill staffing requirements for Level Crossing Gatekeepers (PJL) under a Fixed-Term Employment Agreement (PKWT). The position is open to male applicants who hold a high school diploma (SLTA) or an equivalent Package C certificate, with an age requirement ranging from 18 to 45 years.

Management emphasizes that the entire recruitment process is free of charge. “All recruitment processes are free of any fees. We do not collaborate with any travel agents or transportation services,” the company stated on Friday (May 15, 2026). Applicants must also be prepared to be assigned to any operational area within PT KA Properti Manajemen, depending on company needs.

While applicants may select a preferred testing location, please note that the test site does not determine the final work placement. Candidates who use a Certificate of Graduation (SKL) during the application process must present their original diploma, academic transcripts, or national examination results upon signing the employment contract. Furthermore, successful candidates must be willing to resign from any previous employment upon acceptance.

The recruitment process consists of three rigorous stages: Administrative Screening, Psychological Evaluation, and an Interview.

This initiative aligns with KAI’s ongoing efforts to enhance safety across its 1,810 level crossings. Data indicates that approximately 80% of accidents at these crossings occur at unguarded locations. Between 2023 and 2026, there were 948 casualties in incidents at level crossings, largely driven by risky behaviors such as failure to stop or failing to observe traffic conditions before crossing. To address this, KAI is prioritizing safety facility upgrades for 1,638 crossings and restructuring or closing 172 crossings with limited road access.

Applicant Criteria and Qualifications

To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Be an Indonesian Citizen (WNI).
• Male, in good physical and mental health.
• Hold a high school diploma (SMA/MA/SMK/MAK) from any major with a minimum average UAN score of 6.0.
• For graduates from 2020 onward, a minimum average school exam score of 6.0 or 60 is required.
• Aged between 18 and 45 years as of May 13, 2026.
• Minimum height of 160 cm with an ideal body weight.
• Possess good character, no tattoos or body piercings.
• Must be free from drug or psychotropic involvement and have no criminal record.
• Must not have been dishonorably discharged from any previous institution.
• Willing to follow all recruitment regulations and successfully pass the selection process.

Required Documentation

1. Recent 4×6 colored photograph with a red background.
2. Valid ID card (KTP) or population certificate.
3. Application letter with a IDR 10,000 stamp duty and a Curriculum Vitae.
4. Tax ID number (NPWP), if applicable.
5. Original diplomas and transcripts.
6. Relevant certifications or Smartcards.
7. Health certificate (specifying height, BMI, color blindness status, visual acuity, and blood pressure).
8. Police Clearance Certificate (SKCK).
9. Drug-free certificate from authorized agencies such as Labkesda, Ministry of Health hospitals, BNN, or police hospitals.

Registration and Application Procedure

1. Interested candidates must submit their applications via their registered accounts between May 13 and May 18, 2026. Each applicant is limited to only one recruitment event.
2. Failure to complete the application process during the specified window will result in disqualification.
3. Selection locations are based on the regional divisions (Daop/Divre) selected by the candidate during the registration phase, subject to committee policies.
