Three Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers, who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving with the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, are set to be repatriated to their homeland. This complex repatriation effort is particularly challenging, as it must navigate the volatile landscape of the ongoing conflict in the region.
According to the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Nations in New York (PTRI New York), a solemn farewell and tribute ceremony was held to honor the three fallen peacekeepers. The ceremony, led by UNIFIL Force Commander Diodato Abagnara, took place at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut on Thursday, April 2nd.
PTRI New York has affirmed its continuous coordination with the United Nations regarding the intricate repatriation process for the fallen personnel. The return of the remains is anticipated to commence early this month.
“The Indonesian Government continues to coordinate closely with the United Nations to ensure the repatriation process can proceed swiftly, safely, and smoothly. The return of the remains is expected to be completed within the first week of April 2026,” stated PTRI New York on Friday, April 3rd.

This repatriation effort presents significant hurdles due to the intensely escalating conflict. Consequently, a specialized strategy is absolutely essential to safeguard the security of all personnel involved in the transfer.
“Under normal circumstances, the journey from Beirut to Jakarta would typically take at least 17 hours. However, the current heightened intensity of armed clashes in various areas, exacerbated by increasing Israeli attacks in Southern Lebanon, not only severely restricts movement but also renders every step a precarious gamble with safety,” an official elaborated.

Despite these formidable challenges, PTRI New York has provided assurances that the repatriation will be executed with the utmost care and precision. This commitment stands as a profound tribute to the soldiers who bravely fell in the line of duty, striving to maintain peace.
The fallen Indonesian peacekeepers have been identified as Captain Infanteri Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, Sergeant Muhammad Nur, and Private First Class Farizal Rhomadhon, who tragically lost their lives while serving their mission in Lebanon.
Their heroic dedication embodies Indonesia’s enduring commitment to upholding global peace, a principle deeply enshrined in the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution.
The widespread outpouring of condolences for these three courageous soldiers further underscores their success in elevating Indonesia’s dignity and honor on the world stage.
