A devastating incident in Palembang has resulted in the death of a 23-year-old Indonesian Army (TNI AD) soldier, identified by his initials PR, who succumbed to a gunshot wound allegedly fired by a fellow soldier, RN (23).
The fatal shooting occurred at the Panhead Cafe, Resto Bar and Live Music establishment in Palembang on Saturday, May 16, 2026, around 02:30 AM Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
According to gathered information, the tragic event originated from a misunderstanding between the victim and the alleged perpetrator while they were dancing at the entertainment venue. This initial miscommunication quickly escalated.
What began as an alleged bump led to a heated verbal dispute, which rapidly devolved into a physical altercation. The situation intensified significantly when RN, feeling cornered, was reportedly ganged up on by PR and several of his companions.
In a state of apparent panic, RN allegedly drew his personal firearm and discharged a single shot, which tragically struck PR in the right side of his abdomen.
Suffering from a severe injury, the victim was immediately rushed to Permata Palembang Hospital for urgent medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical staff, PR‘s life could not be saved, as he succumbed to massive blood loss.
Upon receiving reports of the incident, officers from the Palembang City Police (Polrestabes Palembang) promptly arrived at the scene. They initiated a thorough crime scene investigation (CSI) and began collecting statements from witnesses present during the chaotic event.
The head of the Ilir Barat I Police Precinct in Palembang, Commissioner Fauzi Saleh, confirmed the occurrence of the incident.
“We received the report around 02:40 AM WIB,” stated Commissioner Fauzi. “Our officers immediately proceeded to the location and commenced initial handling of the disturbance that ultimately led to one fatality.”
Regarding the subsequent investigative process, the police have indicated that further inquiries should be directed to the Regional Military Police (Pomdam). This is due to the direct involvement of an active Indonesian Army member in the tragic event.(mcr35/jpnn)
