House Commission III Confident Polda Metro Jaya Will Enforce Andrie Yunus Ruling

Ahmad Sahroni, the Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Commission III, has urged the Polda Metro Jaya (Jakarta Metropolitan Police) to promptly follow up on a recent court decision concerning the acid attack perpetrated against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. Sahroni’s statement came in response to the South Jakarta District Court’s ruling, which granted a pre-trial lawsuit challenging the police’s handling of the high-profile case. “If it has become a legal basis, then Polda must follow up according to the court’s decision,” Sahroni emphasized when confirmed on Tuesday, June 2. He expressed confidence that the Polda Metro Jaya would indeed adhere to the applicable legal procedures.

Earlier on the same Tuesday, June 2, the South Jakarta District Court had indeed granted the pre-trial lawsuit pertaining to the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. This significant lawsuit was filed by the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), acting as the petitioner representing Andrie Yunus, against the respondent, the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of Polda Metro Jaya. The lawsuit was initiated by Andrie Yunus’s legal team due to alleged undue delay and the clandestine termination of the investigation by Polda Metro Jaya. This action followed the police’s full transfer of the case to the Puspom TNI (Indonesian Military Police Center) after four members of BAIS TNI (Strategic Intelligence Agency of the Indonesian Armed Forces) were identified as perpetrators on the ground.

Through this pre-trial motion, Andrie Yunus’s legal counsel sought a court order directing the Polda Metro Jaya to reopen the investigation within the general court system. Their argument was underpinned by compelling CCTV evidence, which strongly suggested the involvement of 16 individuals in what they described as a “terror act,” raising suspicions of civilian participation and the existence of intellectual masterminds who have yet to face justice. In its ruling, the court affirmed that the petitioner possessed the legal standing to file the application. The judge partially granted the request, specifically ordering the police to continue the legal process for the Andrie Yunus case. “Grants the applicant’s request in part,” stated Judge Suparna. He further mandated, “Orders the respondent to continue the legal process for police report number LP/A/222/III/2026/Sat Reskrim/Restro Jakpus/Polda Metro Jaya dated March 13, 2026.”
