Severe traffic congestion paralyzed Jalan Raya Lenteng Agung toward Depok on Friday (May 30) morning, following a sudden road collapse that obstructed a significant portion of the thoroughfare. The crater, measuring approximately 3 meters deep and 4 meters long, emerged just past Gang Empang in South Jakarta, forcing motorists into a crawl.
Observations by kumparan starting at 09:01 AM WIB revealed that traffic had already begun to back up well before the Lenteng Agung Flyover. Vehicles were gridlocked along the one-way route heading toward Depok, creating a massive bottleneck.

The resulting traffic jam stretched extensively, reaching as far back as the Sentra Fauna Lenteng Agung area, with heavy congestion persisting up to the GKOI Maranatha vicinity. For many commuters, the journey—which covers less than 2 kilometers—turned into an ordeal lasting nearly 30 minutes, with the kumparan team reaching the GKOI Maranatha area only by 09:30 AM.

The road had shown signs of instability prior to the collapse. On Thursday (May 28) afternoon, maintenance crews attempted to patch the surface following reports of the road beginning to sink. However, the integrity of the road failed completely that night, causing the surface to give way and leaving only a narrow path for vehicles.
According to local residents, the collapse occurred at approximately 10:30 PM. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. “There were no victims,” confirmed Imam, a local resident who witnessed the aftermath.

Imam noted that the warning signs had been visible for days, explaining that cracks had begun to form at the site as early as three days ago. “The cracks had been there since yesterday, but they only patched it up,” he stated. While Imam had monitored the road during the afternoon and noted that it appeared relatively stable, the structure ultimately succumbed to the pressure that same night.
Summary
Severe traffic congestion occurred on Jalan Raya Lenteng Agung toward Depok on Friday, May 30, due to a road collapse measuring 3 meters deep and 4 meters long. The road failure, which happened near Gang Empang in South Jakarta, caused significant bottlenecks reaching back to the Sentra Fauna area. Commuters faced long delays, with travel times for short distances increasing to nearly 30 minutes.
The collapse followed failed attempts by maintenance crews to patch sinking sections of the road reported days prior. Although cracks had been visible for several days, the surface finally gave way on Thursday night around 10:30 PM. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported following the structural failure.
