Upon his arrival at the courthouse, Ibam expressed a readiness to confront the court’s decision, vocalizing his fervent hope for an acquittal. “This is the culmination of a process that has spanned nearly a year,” Ibam stated to reporters at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday (May 12). “I begin with ‘bismillah’ [in the name of God], hoping for the best possible outcome. Naturally, I am hoping for an acquittal, because I have done nothing wrong here, gained nothing, and all my contributions were for the benefit of Indonesia.”

Ibam, noticeably without an ankle monitor, affirmed his continued cooperation in attending the hearing, even though his technical detention period had reportedly concluded on Thursday, May 7, 2026. He adamantly asserted his intention not to flee, driven by an unwavering conviction of his innocence. “I haven’t fled anywhere because I am absolutely convinced of my innocence, and I am eagerly anticipating a decision that will vindicate me here,” Ibam emphasized.

His wife, Dwi Afrianti Nurfajrie, who accompanied him to the proceedings, shared a poignant sentiment, expressing acceptance of whatever verdict the judge would hand down after a grueling legal battle lasting almost a year. “We have fought so hard; it’s been nearly a year. Whatever the decision today, it is God’s best, and ‘insyaallah’ [God willing] we will accept it sincerely,” Dwi remarked.

Earlier, the Public Prosecutor (JPU) had demanded a hefty sentence for Ibrahim Arief: 15 years in prison and a fine of Rp 1 billion, with a subsidiary punishment of 190 days in custody should the fine not be paid. Furthermore, he was ordered to pay restitution amounting to Rp 16.92 billion. This intricate case pertains to the Chromebook laptop procurement during the 2019-2022 period, a scheme estimated to have caused the state staggering losses of up to Rp 2.18 trillion.
