The Chairman of Commission IV of the South Sumatra Regional House of Representatives (DPRD Sumsel), Yansuri, has announced the legislative body’s intention to cancel the procurement of two billiard tables. These luxury items, valued at a substantial Rp 486.9 million, were slated to become facilities for the official residences of the council’s leadership.
Yansuri elaborated that DPRD Sumsel would conduct a comprehensive evaluation of all planned procurements designated for the leaders’ official residences. This rigorous review aims to determine which items will ultimately be removed or canceled from the budget. “In principle, the procurement of those billiard tables will be canceled,” Yansuri firmly stated on Saturday, March 14, underscoring the decision.
However, Yansuri remained evasive when questioned about the origin of these controversial facilities for the official residences, declining to explicitly name whether the initiative stemmed from the secretariat or the council leaders themselves. He clarified the allocation, stating, “That budget is not for members; it is clearly not for the DPRD building, but specifically for the leaders’ residences.”
The Golkar Party politician further asserted his prerogative, adding, “As a member of the budget committee, I can propose their cancellation.” Despite this significant revocation, Yansuri confirmed that not all procurement packages for the leaders’ official residences would be scrapped. He reassured that other essential household needs would still be adequately met.
“Only the extravagant and unusual items will be canceled. Those deemed reasonable and unproblematic will not be touched,” Yansuri explained. He cited everyday necessities such as curtains, chairs, and lighting as examples of standard requirements that would remain, even for leadership residences.
Crucially, Yansuri highlighted that this particular procurement was still in the preliminary planning and tendering phase within the SIRUP LKPP system, emphasizing that no actual purchases had yet been made. “This was merely a proposal, and we are striving to intercept it. It was exposed and subsequently met with widespread public rejection before any funds could be disbursed,” he concluded, indicating a swift response to prevent the expenditure of public funds on the contentious items.
