Diperiksa usai kembali jadi tahanan rutan KPK, Gus Yaqut: Mohon maaf lahir batin

Former Minister of Religious Affairs, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, also known as Gus Yaqut, recently reappeared as a suspect in the ongoing investigation into alleged hajj quota corruption. During his appearance at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) building, Yaqut took the opportunity to extend his Idul Fitri greetings to the public.

Yaqut arrived at the KPK’s prominent Red and White Building around 1:16 PM WIB, transported in a detention vehicle. He was seen wearing a white shirt, covered by the distinctive orange vest of a KPK detainee, with his hands cuffed.

Addressing the media, Yaqut stated, “Mohon maaf lahir batin, minal aidin walfaidzin. Jaalanallahu wa iyyakum minal aidzin wal faidzin. Mohon maaf lahir batin.” This traditional Indonesian greeting, offered on Wednesday, March 25, conveys a profound apology for any physical or spiritual wrongs, asking for forgiveness and wishing blessings upon everyone for the Eid festivities.

This examination marks a significant development following Yaqut’s return to KPK detention, after his previous status had been temporarily shifted to house arrest. The transition back to the detention center set the stage for intensified questioning.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed the immediate scheduling of the examination. “Following the re-transfer of his detention status back to the KPK detention center, investigators today promptly scheduled an examination for suspect YCQ,” Prasetyo informed reporters, highlighting the commission’s swift action.

Budi further explained that the purpose of this examination is to expedite the completion of the investigation file concerning the alleged corruption implicating Yaqut. Furthermore, investigators aim to thoroughly explore the potential involvement of other parties in the corruption scheme, broadening the scope of the probe.

It was on Thursday, March 19, that the KPK had initially transferred Yaqut’s detention to house arrest. This decision came after a request from his family, submitted on March 17, 2026. However, circumstances changed swiftly.

By Monday, March 23, the KPK ultimately reinstated Yaqut’s status as a detainee at the commission’s detention center. Prior to this re-detention, Yaqut underwent a comprehensive health check at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital to ensure his well-being.

As he was led back into detention, Yaqut expressed a sense of gratitude, stating his thankfulness for having had the opportunity to celebrate the recent Eid al-Fitr with his family, a brief reprieve before the resumption of his legal proceedings.
