Teknowarta – PSIM Jogja goalkeeper Cahya Supriadi has officially received a call-up to the Indonesian national team training camp (TC) as part of the preparations for the 2026 AFF Cup.
This recognition follows a challenging outing for his club, PSIM, which suffered a 0-1 defeat against Persita Tangerang last Thursday (April 30). During the match, PSIM struggled with recurring issues, specifically conceding an early goal and finding it difficult to penetrate a disciplined, low-block defense.
Despite the team’s struggles, Cahya delivered a standout performance between the posts. His most notable contribution was a crucial penalty save that kept his team in contention for much of the match. However, he remained grounded, acknowledging that individual heroics lose their shine when the team walks away empty-handed.
“It feels anticlimactic,” Cahya admitted. “I feel sad because we still lost. It would be a much different feeling if we had drawn or won; saving a penalty would feel like a true honor if it had helped the team secure a result.”
Amidst this disappointment, the invitation to join the national squad serves as a pivotal opportunity for the 24-year-old goalkeeper to elevate his game. In the upcoming training camp for the 2026 AFF Cup, he is set to compete for a spot alongside more experienced goalkeepers, namely Nadeo Argawinata and M. Riyandi.
Adopting a realistic approach, Cahya is focused on personal growth rather than being burdened by high expectations. He views the training camp as a valuable learning environment where he can observe his seniors while maintaining a fierce commitment to earning the starting role.
“I am not setting unrealistic expectations. I intend to learn from Nadeo and Riyandi because they are more senior than me, but I will work hard to push for that number-one spot,” he asserted.
For Cahya, this call-up is a critical moment to refine his skills and prove his worth despite his club’s recent inconsistency. As he enters a pivotal phase in his career, this national team experience could be the turning point that propels him to the next level.
“I am ready to learn and put in the work. I want to make the most of this opportunity to develop and show that I can compete at the highest level,” concluded Cahya. (iza/laz/jpg)
