Teknowarta – Bripda Mesias Siahaya has been dishonorably discharged following an ethics hearing by the Maluku Regional Police, a decision that brings a sense of hope to the victim’s parents in the ongoing criminal case.
The disciplinary action against Bripda Mesias Siahaya comes after he was found guilty of causing the death of Arianto Tawakal, a 14-year-old student from Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) Negeri Southeast Maluku (Malra) in Tual City, an incident that occurred on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
After a grueling 13-hour ethics hearing held at the Maluku Regional Police Headquarters in Ambon City, the commission officially ruled for the dishonorable discharge (PTDH) of Bripda Mesias Siahaya, a member of Brimob Yon C Pelopor Sat Brimob Maluku Regional Police. The verdict was formally announced by the Chairman of the Ethics Commission, Kombes Pol. Indera Gunawan, in the early hours of Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
Immediately following the pronouncement of his dismissal, Mesias was escorted to the Maluku Regional Police detention center. He is slated to be transported to the Tual Police precinct to face criminal proceedings for his actions.
The ethics hearing, presided over by an Ethics Commission Panel comprising Kombes Pol. Indera Gunawan, Kompol Jamaludin Malawat, and Kompol Izaac Risambessy, meticulously examined the case. The process commenced with the reading of the charges, followed by the examination of witnesses, totaling 14 individuals.
Among the key witnesses was the victim’s 15-year-old brother, identified by his initials NK. He testified while in a weakened state, requiring a wheelchair, with his right arm still bandaged from a fracture sustained during the tragic incident. The exhaustive hearing extended late into the night, culminating in the PTDH decision, which the victim’s family regarded as a just outcome. In a gesture of profound regret, Maluku Regional Police Chief, Irjen Pol. Prof. Dadang Hartanto, issued a public apology to the victim’s family for the devastating incident.
Reinforcing the decision, Kombes Pol. Indera Gunawan stated, “It is recommended that he be dishonorably discharged, or PTDH, as a police officer.” Upon hearing the verdict, Bripda Mesias Siahaya was visibly dejected, bowing his head as Propam personnel from the Maluku Regional Police escorted him out of the disciplinary hearing room. His subsequent transfer to the Maluku Regional Police detention center marks an important step before his flight to the Tual Police to undergo the criminal process related to his actions.

The parents of the late Arianto Tawakal, the 14-year-old student who died as a result of the alleged assault by Bripda Mesias Siahaya, expressed their views on the ethics hearing’s outcome. Rijik Tawakkal (48), Arianto’s father, welcomed the PTDH decision, affirming it was a key demand from the family.
“Alhamdulillah, we accept the decision well because it was indeed one of the family’s demands, so we are satisfied and accept it,” Rijik conveyed to Kompas.com via telephone on Tuesday evening. He lauded the ethics committee for conducting a highly transparent and open hearing, noting that the process was smooth and yielded a verdict he deemed profoundly fair for his family. “Everything was transparent, and the decision is very fair for us, the family, and that is what we hoped for,” he added.
Rijik also voiced his confidence that the ongoing criminal investigation by the Tual Police would proceed with equal transparency. “I still trust the police, because the Chief of Police has guaranteed me that the legal process will be transparent,” he affirmed. Representing the family, lawyer Ikbal Tamnge emphasized that the PTDH decision against Bripda Mesias Siahaya served as a crucial answer to the victim’s family’s persistent quest for justice. “Regarding the verdict, it is a response to the victim’s family’s anxiety in their search for justice, and that has now been answered,” he stated.
With the ethics hearing concluded, Ikbal stated that the focus would now squarely shift to the criminal proceedings, which are currently being handled by the Tual Police. He affirmed the legal team’s commitment to overseeing the case until its resolution in court. “As legal counsel, our focus is not solely on the ethics violation, as ethics violations are administrative, internal police matters,” he explained. “Now we are focused on the criminal element, where the individual has been named a suspect.” He concluded by expressing his hope for a transparent criminal process at the Tual Police, free from any external intervention.
Arianto Tawakal tragically lost his life at the hands of Bripda Mesias Siahaya after being struck in the head with a Brimob helmet in Tual City, Maluku. The incident occurred while Arianto and his brother were riding their motorcycle. Bripda Mesias Siahaya had accused Arianto Tawakal and his brother of engaging in illegal racing during a Brimob raid on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
During the assault, NK, Arianto’s brother, also sustained injuries, falling from the motorcycle they were sharing and suffering an arm injury. The tragic incident unfolded on the RSUD Maren road in Tual City. The two brothers, both wearing school uniforms and identified as ninth-grade students from Madrasah Aliyah Negeri, were reportedly stopped by the alleged perpetrator. Subsequently, the victim was purportedly struck with a helmet, causing him to fall from the vehicle.
During his testimony before the Maluku Regional Police ethics panel, NK appeared unwell, requiring a wheelchair, with his arm bandaged and an IV drip still attached, his face visibly pale. He entered the hearing room around 2:10 PM WIT and left approximately at 5:10 PM WIT, assisted by a family member, heading to the waiting room. Following NK’s examination, the hearing was paused for 20 minutes before proceeding with nine additional police witnesses.
Bripda Mesias Siahaya was officially designated a suspect following a case review at the Tual City Police Headquarters on Friday, February 20, 2026. He was initially reported for alleged violence against two minors, which regrettably led to the death of one of the victims. After being named a suspect, Bripda Mesias was immediately flown to Ambon, arriving on Saturday morning, February 21, 2026, for further examination.
Kombes Pol Rositah Umasugi, Head of Public Relations for the Maluku Regional Police, stated that Mesias had undergone an ethics examination at the Subbid Wabprof Bidpropam Maluku Regional Police. “This process is part of the National Police’s commitment to upholding discipline and ethics among its members. The examination was conducted intensively, and it was hoped that the ethics hearing for the suspect could be held by Monday,” she explained. In addition to the ethics process, Bripda Mesias Siahaya has also been detained at the Tual City Police detention center.
