In a swift response, the BGN has committed to covering all medical expenses for those affected and has immediately ceased operations at the implicated kitchen. This commitment was articulated by Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, Deputy Head of BGN for Public Communication and Investigation, in Jakarta on Saturday, April 4th.

“We extend our sincere apologies for this incident. The BGN will also take full responsibility for all hospital treatment costs,” Nanik stated, underscoring the agency’s accountability to the victims.

Further demonstrating its commitment to responsibility and safety, the BGN has taken decisive action by indefinitely suspending the operations of the Pondok Kelapa SPPG. Nanik clarified, “Additionally, the Pondok Kelapa SPPG has been suspended for an indefinite period because its kitchen conditions, including layout and the wastewater treatment system (IPAL), still fail to meet required standards.”

The incident unfolded on Friday, April 3rd, following reports received on Thursday afternoon, April 2nd, from teachers. Initially, 36 students experienced symptoms such as stomach aches, diarrhea, and nausea after consuming meals provided by the program. The menu served at the time included spaghetti bolognese, meatballs, scrambled egg tofu, mixed vegetables, and strawberries. The total number of individuals identified as affected has since risen to 60. Fortunately, all victims have received medical attention and are reported to be in improving condition.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the probable cause of the incident is linked to the food not being consumed in a fresh condition. According to officials, an excessive delay between the cooking process and actual consumption has the potential to degrade food quality, significantly increasing the risk of health disturbances and food poisoning.

Moving forward, the BGN has vowed to significantly tighten its supervisory protocols to prevent any recurrence of similar incidents. The agency is resolute in its commitment to ensuring food safety standards are rigorously upheld across all implementations of the Free Nutritious Meal Program, safeguarding the well-being of its beneficiaries.
