A Satpol PP (Public Order Agency) officer tragically lost his life while attempting to evacuate a mentally ill person (ODGJ) in Kebumen. The officer, identified by his initials AA, was fatally attacked with a sharp weapon by the individual he was trying to assist.
The harrowing incident unfolded on Monday, January 2, at approximately 2:00 PM Western Indonesian Time (WIB), in Alian District, Kebumen Regency. Officer AA was part of a multi-agency team supporting the Alian Community Health Center (Puskesmas) in the evacuation of Ruwadi, a person with mental health issues, from his home.
The evacuation effort was comprehensive, involving a significant number of personnel. The team included three members from the Alian Sector Police of Kebumen Police, two members from the Alian Military Sub-district Command (Koramil), five additional Satpol PP officers, a representative from the village government, and even members of Ruwadi’s own family, all working together to ensure a safe procedure.
However, as the team prepared for the evacuation, the situation took a dangerous turn. Ruwadi suddenly emerged from his house, armed with a formidable array of weapons. These included both sharp and blunt instruments: a sickle, a butcher knife, and a crowbar, immediately escalating the threat level for the approaching officers.
When attempts were made to guide Ruwadi into a waiting ambulance, he violently resisted the officers. He began swinging the sickle and crowbar defensively. Reports also indicated that the butcher knife was secured at his waist, further highlighting the peril faced by the responders.
Despite the officers’ valiant efforts to disarm him, they were unsuccessful. In a sudden and aggressive move, Ruwadi pursued officer AA, striking him with the sickle. The attack resulted in a severe slash wound on AA’s body, leaving him critically injured.
Following the attack, officer AA was immediately rushed to Jenderal Soedirman Hospital in Kebumen for urgent medical attention. Tragically, despite receiving care, he succumbed to his injuries approximately 30 minutes after being admitted, a devastating loss for the community and his colleagues.
Kebumen Police Chief AKBP I Putu Bagus Krisna Purnama officially confirmed the incident, stating that the Kebumen Police are now engaged in a thorough investigation to ascertain the full sequence of events. “Currently, Kebumen Police are conducting an in-depth investigation into this incident,” Purnama said in a written statement released on Monday, February 2.
During the subsequent crime scene investigation (CSI), the Inafis Satreskrim team of the Kebumen Police discovered bloodstains on the road in front of Ruwadi’s house and on the foundation of the yard, providing crucial physical evidence. The police also secured the weapons used in the attack, including the one sickle, one butcher knife, and one crowbar. Furthermore, they have formally requested a visum et repertum (medical report or autopsy) from the hospital to aid the ongoing inquiry.
AKP Dwi Atma Yofi Wirabrata, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit for Kebumen Police, further elaborated on the legal proceedings. He confirmed that the case is being diligently handled by the Alian Sector Police Criminal Investigation Unit in collaboration with the General Criminal Unit (Pidum) of the Kebumen Police, strictly adhering to standard operating procedures (SOP) and all applicable legal provisions. “The investigation is still ongoing to delve into the elements of the incident, including the sequence of actions during the evacuation and the handling of the alleged perpetrator,” Yofi affirmed, underscoring the commitment to a comprehensive understanding of this tragic event.
