The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has identified one of the officials apprehended in its recent sting operation (OTT) as Ronald Arman Abdullah, the Head of the West Jakarta Immigration Office.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed the arrest on Wednesday (June 3), stating, “He is indeed one of those involved,” when asked about the detention of the West Jakarta immigration official.
According to Budi, the coordinated sting operation spanned multiple regions, including Jakarta, West Java, and Bali. He noted that over a dozen individuals were taken into custody during the sweep, which involved both state officials and private-sector entities.
“In addition to state officials, we have also secured several individuals from the private sector,” Budi added.
While the KPK has yet to finalize the specific charges, the operation is believed to be linked to corruption regarding the processing of residence permits for foreign nationals in Indonesia. Budi emphasized that investigators are still working to establish the legal framework of the case.
“We will determine the nature of the case once the investigation progresses. Whether it involves bribery, extortion, or other offenses, we will provide the details in due course,” Budi explained.
Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko acknowledged that his office has received reports regarding the KPK operation. “We are currently waiting for official confirmation and detailed information from the KPK,” Hendarsam told kumparan.
As of now, Ronald Arman Abdullah has not issued a statement regarding the operation. All individuals currently detained hold the status of persons under investigation. Under Indonesian law, the KPK has a 24-hour window to conduct initial questioning before determining their formal legal status.
