Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, stated that the assault occurred around 3:30 AM in front of Restu Sport, located within the Blok M Hub. Prior to the attack, the victim was at the location with a witness when several individuals arrived and began talking with them.

At approximately 3:28 AM, the suspect arrived at the scene in a vehicle with a companion. Upon exiting the car, MIA was seen carrying a black paper bag, which was later found to contain a glass bottle. Budi explained that an argument broke out at the entrance of the Blok M Hub, which then shifted toward the front of Restu Sport.

During the confrontation, MIA allegedly struck the victim once on the head with the paper bag containing the glass bottle, causing MHF to collapse. Following the assault, the victim was briefly taken to a nearby lodging before being transferred to the Pertamina Central Hospital (RSPP) for medical treatment. However, his condition continued to deteriorate until he passed away on May 16, 2026.

Visiting Jakarta for a Concert

It has been revealed that MHF was part of a group of travelers from Brunei Darussalam who had come to Jakarta specifically to attend a concert. The group had been staying at a hotel in the Blok M area for more than a week prior to the incident.

Darwin, the hotel’s Front Office Manager, confirmed the victim’s stay, noting that the group consisted of eight men and women. “The guests stayed with us for more than a week with the purpose of watching a concert. That is all we were informed of,” Darwin said on Tuesday. He added that the hotel staff were unaware of any conflicts involving the guests during their stay.

The hotel management received no immediate information regarding the fatal encounter. According to Darwin, the group’s check-out process on May 14, 2026, was entirely normal. “There was nothing suspicious; the check-out was handled as usual,” he noted. It was only three days after the group had departed that police arrived at the hotel to request information and conduct their investigation.
