A Brunei Darussalam national, identified by the initials MHF (30), tragically lost his life following an alleged assault in the vibrant Blok M area of South Jakarta. Before the fatal incident, it has been revealed that MHF and his travel companions had been staying at a local hotel in the vicinity.
Darwin, the hotel’s Front Office Manager, confirmed that the victim arrived with seven friends and resided at their establishment for over a week. Their primary purpose for visiting Jakarta, according to Darwin, was to attend a concert. He emphasized that the hotel staff were entirely unaware of any issues or problems involving the guest during their extended stay. “It’s true that the guest stayed with us. And they were here for approximately over a week with the intention of attending a concert. That’s all we know,” Darwin stated when met in the Blok M area on Tuesday, May 26.
Darwin further elaborated that the group consisted of eight individuals, both male and female. He reiterated that the hotel had no information regarding the circumstances of MHF’s death, explaining that during check-in, the guests merely mentioned their plan to attend a concert event in Jakarta. The check-out process for the group was also described as entirely normal, with no suspicious activities observed. They reportedly checked out on May 14, 2026. A few days after their departure, Darwin noted, police officials visited the hotel to gather information pertaining to the incident, approximately three days after the May 14 check-out date.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the alleged assault has made significant progress. The Polda Metro Jaya (Jakarta Metropolitan Police) previously apprehended another Brunei Darussalam national, MIA (33), who is suspected of involvement in the assault that led to MHF’s death in the Blok M, Kebayoran Baru area of South Jakarta. MIA, known as a Brunei social media influencer or “selebgram” with the account @woodyrman, was arrested by the Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya team in the early hours of Monday, May 25, in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta.
AKBP Resa Fiardi Marasabessy, Head of Sub-directorate III Tahbang/Resmob Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya, confirmed that the suspect was secured following a thorough police investigation into the case. “The team has apprehended one suspect related to the alleged criminal act of assault that resulted in the victim’s death,” Resa announced on Tuesday, May 26.
Police reports indicate that the tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday, May 6, at approximately 03:30 AM Western Indonesian Time (WIB), in front of Restu Sport, Blok M Hub, Melawai Urban Village, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. The altercation reportedly began as a verbal argument between the victim and the perpetrator, escalating when MIA allegedly struck the victim’s head with a paper bag containing a glass bottle.
Following the assault, the victim was initially transported to an accommodation nearby before being referred to Pertamina Central Hospital (RSPP). Despite medical attention, MHF’s condition tragically deteriorated, leading to his passing on May 16, 2026.
