SMAN 1 Pontianak has formally requested that the proposed re-run of the Four Pillars Quiz Contest (LCC) final for West Kalimantan Province, organized by the MPR, be canceled. The esteemed school has expressed its acceptance of the competition results and graciously conceded to their position as second-place champions.
This pivotal decision was personally communicated by school officials during their visit to the MPR RI Building on Thursday, May 14. Deputy Speaker of the MPR RI, Eddy Soeparno, confirmed this development.
“Yesterday, it was agreed upon by the principal and vice-principal of SMAN 1 Pontianak when they visited the MPR RI. I received them along with Mr. Hidayat Nur Wahid, and they were also welcomed by the Chairman of the MPR’s Four Pillars Socialization Body, Mr. Abraham, and the Secretary General of the MPR,” Eddy explained to reporters on Friday, May 15. “They agreed and requested that the contest not be repeated. SMAN 1 Pontianak has gracefully accepted their second-place position.”
Supporting SMAN 1 Sambas
Beyond merely accepting the outcome, SMAN 1 Pontianak has also declared its full support for SMAN 1 Sambas to advance to the national level of the competition.
“They will, in fact, support SMAN 1 Sambas in progressing to the next final stage,” Eddy emphasized, highlighting the spirit of sportsmanship.
According to Eddy, this commendable stance has been formally documented in an open statement and an official letter dispatched to the Speaker of the MPR, Ahmad Muzani. “This was followed by a public statement of position from SMAN 1, reiterating the same point, and then SMAN 1 also sent a letter to the Speaker of the MPR stating their request,” he clarified.
The letter submitted by SMAN 1 Pontianak is slated for deliberation during an upcoming MPR Leadership Meeting (Rapim). This meeting will serve to determine the definitive course of action regarding the initial plans for repeating the contested provincial-level quiz.
“Therefore, the MPR leadership will convene a meeting to decide on the outcome of the letter sent by SMAN 1, based on their request that the competition phase at that time not need to be repeated,” Eddy elaborated, underscoring the weight of the school’s petition.
Brief Overview of the Scoring Controversy
The roots of this controversy trace back to the final round of the Four Pillars Quiz Contest at the West Kalimantan Province level, held on May 9, 2026.
During that contentious event, SMAN 1 Pontianak was assessed a score of minus 5 for an answer that judges deemed to have lacked clear articulation. In stark contrast, SMAN 1 Sambas was awarded a perfect 10 for an answer that was perceived by many to be remarkably similar in nature, sparking the initial dispute.
