Ammar Zoni’s Lawyer Questions His Classification as a High-Risk Inmate

Ammar Zoni’s new legal counsel, Krisna Murti, has formally sent a letter to the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjen PAS) to challenge and seek clarification regarding his client’s controversial classification as a high-risk prisoner. This crucial inquiry aims to understand the basis of the decision that has significantly impacted the celebrity actor.

The designation of Ammar Zoni, widely known for his role in the soap opera “7 Manusia Harimau,” as a high-risk inmate carries severe consequences. Following this classification, he was transferred to the notorious Nusakambangan maximum-security prison in Cilacap, where he is reportedly held in isolation, unable to receive visits from his family. This isolation highlights the gravity of his current status and the restricted access family members face.

From the lawyer’s perspective, Ammar Zoni’s case does not warrant a high-risk prisoner classification. Consequently, Krisna Murti is actively seeking a comprehensive and satisfactory explanation from Ditjen PAS officials. “We require the assessment results. What kind of evaluation led to Ammar being labeled as high-risk? We want to examine those assessment findings first,” Krisna Murti stated on Monday, May 11, in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta.

He further emphasized the necessity for transparency, adding, “We also need an explanation concerning the reasons behind Ammar Zoni’s transfer to Nusakambangan.” While respecting the judicial verdict handed down to his client, Krisna Murti, acting as legal representative, asserts the indispensable need for adequate clarification regarding the stringent high-risk designation. “Fundamentally, we respect the decision from the Directorate General of Prisons,” Krisna Murti affirmed, underscoring his professional stance while still demanding procedural clarity.

Providing insight into the official policy, Rika Aprianti, Head of the Cooperation Sub-directorate at the Directorate General of Corrections, previously clarified that placement in Nusakambangan Prison is not dictated by the length of an inmate’s sentence or the type of offense. Instead, the primary criterion is the inmate’s behavior while in custody or prison. Rika elaborated that even inmates nearing release could be transferred to Nusakambangan if they are deemed high-risk prisoners.

“This isn’t dependent on the type of case or the duration of the sentence,” Rika asserted, reinforcing the behavior-centric policy. She further explained that prisoners serving life sentences would not necessarily be placed in Nusakambangan if their conduct within the prison system remains exemplary. This emphasizes that consistent good behavior can mitigate the severity of placement, regardless of the conviction.

Ammar Zoni was reportedly categorized as a high-risk prisoner after allegedly being involved in drug trafficking activities within the Salemba Detention Center in Central Jakarta, an incident said to have occurred in early 2025. This alleged involvement forms the basis of his current classification and subsequent transfer to the maximum-security facility.

Summary

Ammar Zoni’s lawyer, Krisna Murti, has formally questioned the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjen PAS) regarding his client’s classification as a high-risk prisoner. This designation led to Zoni’s transfer to Nusakambangan maximum-security prison, where he is held in isolation and cannot receive family visits. Murti is seeking a comprehensive explanation and assessment results, arguing that Ammar Zoni’s case does not warrant such a stringent classification.

Ditjen PAS policy clarifies that placement in Nusakambangan is based on an inmate’s behavior in custody, not the type or length of their sentence. High-risk prisoners, identified by their conduct, can be transferred regardless of their conviction. Ammar Zoni was reportedly categorized as high-risk after alleged involvement in drug trafficking activities within Salemba Detention Center in early 2025.
