The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) mobilized 480 personnel to ensure security for the 15th anniversary celebration of the GRIB Jaya community organization. The event took place in the Istora Senayan area of Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), Central Jakarta, on Sunday, May 10.
Kombes Budi Hermanto, Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, stated that hundreds of officers were strategically deployed across various points to guarantee the event proceeded safely and orderly. “This security operation is an integral part of the police’s service to the community. Our personnel were on standby to ensure the activity remained secure, orderly, and conducive,” Hermanto explained in a statement on Sunday, May 10.
Hermanto further detailed that the security measures adopted a humanistic and persuasive approach. He emphasized that the police’s presence aimed to facilitate safe community activities without disrupting other public functions. “Our personnel on the ground were instructed to prioritize persuasive and humanistic measures. The security was conducted professionally and with measured precision,” he added, underscoring the commitment to public safety and smooth proceedings.
Beyond deploying security personnel, the police also urged participants to maintain order throughout the event to prevent any undesirable incidents. Additionally, Polda Metro Jaya prepared situational traffic engineering around the GBK area to anticipate and manage potential vehicle congestion during the celebrations.
“Traffic flow adjustments were implemented situationally, based on on-the-ground conditions. We appeal to the public to remain orderly, follow officers’ directions, and contact the 110 police service should they require assistance,” Hermanto advised, highlighting the cooperative effort needed for successful event management.
Meanwhile, Kompol Robby Hefados, Head of Operations for the Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya, confirmed that traffic personnel had been stationed at several key points around GBK since early morning. “We had preparations in place; since last night, we had arranged traffic security, especially for Sunday in the GBK vicinity, where we routinely deploy traffic personnel to secure community activities,” Hefados elaborated.
According to Hefados, the comprehensive security deployment was essential because the GBK area typically sees a high volume of public sports activities and hosts Car Free Day events on weekends. “Therefore, security for traffic safety and order (Kamseltibcarlantas) is routinely conducted around GBK for all community activities, including Car Free Day, planned GRIB events, and public sports activities. We anticipate these and deploy personnel from morning until evening,” he concluded, detailing the continuous police efforts to ensure public order and smooth traffic flow in the bustling area.
