Teknowarta – A deeply concerning situation has emerged involving religious students, many of whom are minors, who are alleged victims in a sexual abuse case implicating Syekh Ahmad Al Misry.
The case, which involves allegations of same-sex abuse, has once again sent shockwaves through Indonesian society. Syekh Ahmad Al Misry, a figure widely recognized in Indonesia as a judge on a televised Quran memorization talent show, has now been named a suspect.
This suspect status was formally declared by investigators from the National Police Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim Polri) following an official report filed by Habib Mahdi. Notably, renowned preacher Oki Setiana Dewi is also reported to have played a significant role in bringing this case to light.
Despite being declared a suspect, Syekh Ahmad Al Misry has reportedly left Indonesia and returned to his home country, Egypt. This development has enraged Habib Mahdi, who represents the victims. He has vehemently demanded that Syekh Ahmad Al Misry return to Indonesia to face the ongoing legal proceedings.
Habib Mahdi further revealed the distressing condition of the victims, most of whom are minors. He stated that they are suffering from severe trauma, to the point of being afraid to even meet religious teachers (ustaz).
“Same-sex [abuse] can be contagious, and these children are experiencing truly extraordinary trauma,” he explained, as quoted from YouTube Reyben Entertainment on Saturday, April 25, 2026. “When they face me, they become hysterical. They say, ‘I no longer trust ustaz. I would even rather apostatize than endure this.'”
According to Habib Mahdi, the victims will require years of treatment to recover from their profound trauma. He elaborated that during interviews, the victims needed significant pauses and time to recount the heartbreaking events. “Even when I interviewed them yesterday, there was a necessary break between the first and subsequent days. There were deep tears, regret, questioning why they ever had to meet Ahmad Misry,” he lamented.
Habib Mahdi stressed that out of the numerous victims, nearly all are underage. “It is confirmed that all victims are male, and 80 percent are minors,” he affirmed.
Syekh Ahmad Al Misry Named Suspect
Bareskrim Polri officially declared Egyptian preacher Ahmad Al Misry as a suspect in the alleged abuse case involving several religious students. Brigjen Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, confirmed that the suspect designation followed a case review conducted by investigators.
“Based on the case review carried out by investigators, and based on police report number: LP/B/586/XI/2025/SPKT/Bareskrim Polri dated November 28, 2025, investigators have named saudara SAM as a suspect,” Trunoyudo stated, as quoted by Tribunnews.com on Friday, April 24, 2026.
He added that investigators from the Directorate of Women, Children, and Persons with Disabilities Protection (Dittipid PPA and PPO) of Bareskrim Polri have issued a notification of the commencement of investigation (SPDP) to the victims. “In an effort to provide protection and services to the victims, investigators have initiated the investigation process through Dittipid PPA and PPO Bareskrim Polri,” he clarified.
Alleged Modus Operandi of Abuse
Egyptian preacher Syekh Ahmad Al Misry, also known by his initials SAM, was previously reported to Bareskrim Polri on Thursday, March 12, 2026, concerning allegations of deviant sexual acts against a number of religious students. Following the report, Habib Mahdi, representing the victims, disclosed the initial chronology of the alleged immoral acts committed by Syekh Ahmad.
Habib Mahdi stated that there were multiple victims from various regions. The modus operandi allegedly employed by SAM disturbingly involved invoking the name of Prophet Muhammad SAW. “I opened a short video, about 9 seconds long. The dialogue was, ‘Syekh, why is it like this?’ And the Syekh said, ‘It’s okay, Prophet Muhammad and Sayyidina Ali also did something like that,'” Habib Mahdi recounted, as quoted from YouTube Seleb On Cam News on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Habib Mahdi then revealed another video he had received. “I searched for videos related to that person. There was the same face, the same clothes. I opened it. I listened from beginning to end. ‘What is this? Why is it like this? Why is it homosexual, why is it abuse beyond my comprehension? Male with male,'” he added.
Victims’ Initial Refusal
Habib Mahdi explained that the victims in different videos did not know each other. “The victims in this video and that video didn’t know each other. The locations were also different. So, these two individuals were unacquainted,” he said. He continued, describing an incident: “Then I asked, why did you agree to do something like that? The first incident happened in Purbalingga. The victim was 15 years old. At that time, Syekh Ahmad was preaching there.”
“He happened to be a guest at the pesantren (Islamic boarding school) of the victim’s uncle. As a guest, he asked for companionship. After talking, he offered, ‘Do you want me to send you to Egypt to become a hafiz (memorizer) of the Quran? You’ll have a sanad (chain of narration/certification) if you go there,'” Habib Mahdi further elaborated. He explained that a sanad is a tremendous achievement for a Quran memorizer.
“Naturally, the child agreed, lured by religious promises. After agreeing, [SAM said], ‘Okay, after we’ve talked, are you really sure? Alright, I’ll do a physical check,'” Habib Mahdi recounted, imitating SAM’s words. “A 15-year-old, who has never been abroad, is asked for a physical check. What kind of physical check? Take off your shirt, take off your shirt like this, to see if there are any tattoos, any defects, and so on,” Habib Mahdi explained.
The victim initially refused when asked to remove his pants. “He was asked to take off his pants. He didn’t want to at first. Including, forgive me, his private parts were touched. After the incident, the victim was sent off due to the promise,” Habib Mahdi continued. The victim reportedly experienced further deviant treatment while staying at SAM’s house. “When in Jakarta, at Ahmad Misry’s house, the same victim’s lips were kissed, allegedly to improve fluency,” he clarified.
Oki Setiana Dewi’s Role in Uncovering Abuse Allegations
The alleged same-sex sexual abuse case involving religious students and preacher Syekh Ahmad Al Misry, or SAM, continues to unfold. It has recently come to light that actress and preacher Oki Setiana Dewi played a crucial role in exposing these allegations.
Habib Mahdi, representing the victims, stated that Oki Setiana Dewi is a key figure in this case. She reportedly helped uncover allegations of abuse by Syekh Ahmad that occurred in Egypt. “Ustazah Oki is a witness [for the report at Bareskrim]. Because she uncovered the case in Egypt,” Habib Mahdi clarified, as quoted from YouTube Seleb Oncam News on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Habib Mahdi detailed that the incident in Egypt took place in 2025, specifically from the last week of August to the first week of September, lasting 14 days. “During these 14 days, the incident occurred for 11 consecutive days in 2025,” Habib Mahdi added. At that time, Oki was contacted by the victim’s older sibling.
“It was revealed to Ustazah Oki because the victim’s sibling received a scholarship from Ustazah Oki and worked at her school. The sibling couldn’t directly communicate with Ustazah Oki, so they asked someone else for help. This person then asked Ustazah Oki for permission to give her number to the sibling. The sibling eventually communicated with Ustazah Oki, inquiring about the incident with the victim.”
Initially, the victim was reluctant to confess. However, he eventually confided his bitter experience to Ory Vitrio Abdullah’s wife. “The victim at that time didn’t reveal 100 percent, but the fact of the abuse was uncovered,” he emphasized. The victim admitted to enduring abuse from SAM for 11 days. “After returning to Indonesia, I met the victim. I talked to him and found out it was for 11 days. And this victim in Egypt is now only 17 years old. At the time of the incident, he was 16, and he left [for Egypt] when he was 15,” he further explained.
Habib Mahdi reiterated that all victims in this case are male. “And on average, all the victims are male,” he concluded.
Syekh Ahmad Al Misry Denies Allegations
Syekh Ahmad Al Misry, also known as SAM, has emerged to address and vehemently deny the accusations of deviant sexual abuse against several religious students. SAM was reported to Bareskrim Polri for allegedly abusing male students under the guise of religion. The case of alleged same-sex sexual abuse has now advanced to the investigation stage.
Syekh Ahmad himself finally spoke out, strongly refuting the allegations leveled against him. The Egyptian Syekh claims to possess evidence proving he has been slandered. “The accusation of abuse against students is not true. Therefore, please be thorough because the evidence I have collected has been submitted to my legal counsel to be handed over to the authorities, and there are also witnesses,” he explained, as quoted from YouTube Reyben Entertainment on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
“The cruel slander that has deeply wounded my heart and the heart of every Muslim is the slander that Rasulullah SAW committed abuse against Sayyidina Ali bin Abi Thalib. God forbid,” he asserted. “That is a lie and a very cruel slander that wounds our hearts as Muslims.”
Syekh Ahmad swore that he had never made such a defamatory statement. “By Allah, I have never issued such a fatwa (religious edict). And this is a very cruel slander that is being spread widely across many social media platforms,” he pledged.
