This pivotal commitment emerged from a significant meeting held on Tuesday, April 21st, at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta. The gathering brought together Putrama Wahju Setyawan and Sister Natalia Situmorang, the Treasurer of the Credit Union Paroki Aek Nabara, under the initiative of Deputy Speaker of Parliament Sufmi Dasco Ahmad. The core of the issue involves the fraudulent misappropriation of church savings and loan cooperative funds by Andi Hakim Febriansyah, who previously served as the Head of BNI’s Aek Nabara Cash Office.

During the session, Setyawan expressed his deep appreciation for the critical attention given to the ongoing situation, specifically acknowledging President Prabowo’s involvement. “Firstly, we are certainly grateful for the attention from Mr. President Prabowo regarding the current situation, and we have found a solution that we will immediately discuss with the Credit Union Paroki Aek Nabara,” he stated. He further underscored BNI’s unwavering dedication to ensuring the complete return of funds, precisely in line with the value communicated by the Credit Union Paroki Aek Nabara. “Therefore, tomorrow, April 22, 2026, we will be able to return the funds belonging to the Credit Union Paroki Aek Nabara. Full, as conveyed by the Credit Union Paroki Aek Nabara,” Setyawan affirmed, setting a clear deadline for the full restitution.

Beyond the immediate resolution, Setyawan emphasized that this incident offers a vital lesson for all stakeholders—both in the banking industry and among customers. He highlighted the critical importance of robust financial literacy and stringent internal oversight mechanisms to prevent such unfortunate events from recurring.

She conveyed her sincere gratitude to the government and the leadership of the House of Representatives for their proactive engagement and strong support in addressing this complex matter. “We thank Mr. President, and all levels of government who have shown immense attention to the people of Aek Nabara Parish, ensuring this problem could be resolved well,” Sister Natalia remarked after the fruitful meeting. She also extended a specific thank you to Mr. Dasco for facilitating their presence and dialogue.

Sister Natalia voiced her optimism for a smooth and efficient fund return process. Overwhelmed with gratitude for the positive outcome, she expressed joy that the community’s valuable funds would soon be restored. “There is good news because the community will also rejoice to receive their rights,” she shared, reflecting the collective hope and relief among the affected parish members.

BNI: Aek Nabara KCP Case Outside BNI’s Official System

Providing further clarification on the incident, Munadi Herlambang, BNI’s Director of Human Capital & Compliance, stated that the customer fund embezzlement by the individual was first detected in February 2026 through BNI’s meticulous internal monitoring processes. Herlambang elaborated on the fraudulent activity: “This incident was an act by an individual who conducted transactions outside the system, beyond official banking authority and procedures. Furthermore, the product used in this case was not an official BNI product and was not recorded in BNI’s operational system.”

In light of these findings, BNI is actively collaborating with law enforcement agencies to resolve the situation, relying on their investigations to objectively determine the exact value of customer losses. As of Saturday, April 18th, police inquiries estimated the customer loss to be approximately Rp 28 billion. Herlambang reiterated that these illicit actions were perpetrated by an individual operating outside BNI’s legitimate framework, thereby positioning BNI itself as a victim in the unfortunate event. “BNI, in this regard, is also a party harmed by this incident, and we are certainly concerned about what has transpired, especially for our Aek Nabara Parish customers,” he conveyed.

Despite being a victim, BNI remains fully dedicated to regulatory compliance and assumes responsibility for the incident. This commitment has already been evidenced by the initial return of Rp 7 billion in funds to customers following preliminary verification. The bank has further pledged to complete the comprehensive return of all remaining funds within a week, starting Monday, April 20th, and concluding Friday, April 24th, ensuring complete restitution for the affected Credit Union Paroki Aek Nabara.
