Faizal Assegaf, the CEO of PT Sinkos Multimedia Mandiri and a prominent 1998 activist, has officially filed a complaint against Budi Prasetyo, the spokesperson for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The reports were submitted to both the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) and the KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas). Assegaf initiated these actions after feeling wrongfully implicated in an ongoing alleged corruption case within the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, currently under investigation by the KPK.
Assegaf specifically challenged Prasetyo’s public statements, which suggested he had received facilities or items from one of the suspects in the alleged Customs and Excise corruption scandal. The suspect in question is identified as Rizal, the former Director of Enforcement and Investigation at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday (April 15), Assegaf clarified the focus of his complaints. “Our report is solely directed at Budi Prasetyo personally, as we suspect he leveraged KPK facilities to construct a narrative inconsistent with the facts we encountered during our examination process at the KPK,” Faizal stated. He further emphasized the gravity of the situation: “All accusations and opinions he has propagated, including the most recent egregious slander and significant falsehood that the KPK has seized items from us, will serve as additional evidence at Polda Metro Jaya.”
Assegaf vehemently contested the notion of a ‘seizure,’ asserting that the items allegedly confiscated by the KPK were, in fact, voluntarily surrendered by his company. “If it was a seizure, what was the legal basis?” he questioned, explaining, “What actually transpired was citizen participation in support of the anti-corruption movement, involving the handover of items which are entirely unrelated to the internal issues within Customs and Excise.”

Meanwhile, Budi Prasetyo offered a contrasting account, confirming that the KPK had indeed seized several pieces of evidence from Faizal Assegaf. He detailed to reporters that the items confiscated by investigators were electronic goods, including a monitor, a camera, and other various electronic devices.
Regarding these items, Faizal Assegaf expressed disappointment over what he perceived as the KPK’s tactic to steer public opinion, implying PT Sinkos Multimedia Mandiri’s involvement in the alleged corruption. He stressed that the return of these electronic items, which were personal assistance from Rizal, occurred in a spirit of camaraderie and friendship with KPK investigators. “There was no coercion or legal pressure that mandated or compelled this,” Assegaf clarified.

Elevating his protest, Faizal Assegaf has now formally reported Budi Prasetyo to the KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas). This specific complaint centers on the alleged abuse of authority by Prasetyo in shaping public perception. Assegaf articulated his hopes regarding this latest action. “We came to the KPK Supervisory Board to submit an official complaint letter, and we earnestly hope that Dewas, which was established with public support for transparency in law enforcement, particularly within the KPK, will promptly respond to our report.”
In response to this complaint, Prasetyo dismissed the need for a serious rebuttal. “Regarding that report, I believe there’s no longer a need for us to respond; we fully entrust it to the KPK Supervisory Board,” Budi stated. He added, “We are confident that Dewas will objectively review and carefully consider complaints from the public.”

It is worth noting that Assegaf had previously filed a separate report against Budi Prasetyo with the Polda Metro Jaya concerning alleged defamation. That initial report was officially accepted and registered under the number LP/B/2592/IV/2026/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA, dated April 14, 2026.
