The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has officially named Gatut Sunu Wibowo, slated to be the Regent of Tulungagung for the 2025–2030 period, as a suspect in an alleged extortion case. He has been detained alongside his adjutant, Dwi Yoga Ambal, who is also implicated in the same high-profile investigation.
According to Asep Guntur Rahayu, the KPK’s Deputy for Enforcement and Execution, the case escalated to the investigation stage after investigators uncovered substantial preliminary evidence pointing to corruption within the Tulungagung Regency government. Speaking at the KPK’s Red and White Building on Saturday, April 11, Asep Guntur confirmed, “The KPK subsequently elevated this case to the investigative phase and designated two individuals as suspects: GSW, identified as the Regent of Tulungagung for the 2025–2030 term, and DYA, his ADC or adjutant.”
Asep further elaborated that both suspects were immediately placed in detention for the initial 20-day period at the KPK Red and White Building branch detention center. Their detention commenced on April 11 and is slated to conclude on April 30, 2026, as the anti-corruption body intensifies its probe.
During this thorough investigation, the KPK team successfully seized a range of critical evidence. This included various documents, electronic evidence, and a significant collection of luxury items. Asep specifically highlighted the confiscation of several pairs of Louis Vuitton shoes, alongside a substantial cash sum of Rp 335.4 million. This amount, he emphasized, is understood to be a portion of the total Rp 2.7 billion allegedly received by suspect GSW, underscoring the scale of the suspected illicit gains.
For their alleged actions, both suspects face charges under Article 12 letter e or Article 12B of Indonesia’s Anti-Corruption Law (UU Tipikor), in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of the Criminal Code (KUHP). These serious charges reflect the gravity of the corruption allegations currently under investigation.
