The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has officially confirmed the procurement of electric motorcycles intended for the operational needs of its Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG). This confirmation follows a video that rapidly went viral across social media platforms. Dadan Hindayana, Head of the BGN, stated that these purchases are part of the agency’s 2025 budget.
The video, which circulated widely over the past few days, showcased hundreds of electric motorcycles adorned with BGN stickers. Still wrapped in plastic, these vehicles were purportedly designated for the heads of the SPPGs, sparking widespread public discussion.
In response to the viral sensation, Dadan Hindayana, the Head of the BGN, issued a public statement addressing the matter.
He verified the acquisition of these two-wheeled vehicles, clarifying their purpose for supporting the daily operations of SPPG heads. Dadan reiterated that this procurement is “included in the 2025 budget.”
“Their function is to support the operations of SPPG heads,” Dadan informed the media, as quoted by Detik.com on Tuesday (07/04).
Dadan further elaborated that the electric motorcycles have not yet been distributed. He explained that these vehicles, though already acquired, must undergo an administrative process to be registered as State-Owned Assets (BMN) before they can be officially deployed.
“The motorcycles have not been distributed. Once all procedures are complete, they will first be registered as State-Owned Assets before being distributed,” he added, emphasizing the necessary bureaucratic steps.
The Head of BGN also specified that the phased rollout of these motorcycle procurements is slated to commence in December 2025.
He explicitly refuted the narrative presented in the viral video, which falsely claimed a procurement volume of 70,000 units.
“The information about 70,000 units is incorrect. The total acquisition of electric motorcycles amounts to 21,801 units, out of the 25,000 units ordered for 2025,” Dadan clarified, providing the accurate figures to counter misinformation.
Netizen Reactions
On social media, the viral video featuring the new electric motorcycles generated a significant volume of comments from netizens. Many drew sharp comparisons between the perceived “lavish” budget expenditure by the BGN and the pressing issue of teacher welfare in various regions.
“What about teachers in remote areas?” questioned one netizen in a comment on a national media’s Instagram post, highlighting a common sentiment.
Another netizen raised critical questions regarding the urgency and efficiency of government spending, especially in light of ongoing international events such as the Middle East conflict.
“What’s the purpose? Is there any urgency?” another online user queried, reflecting public concern over resource allocation.
The revelation of electric motorcycles for BGN operations emerges amidst the government’s announcement of a substantial budget deficit for the first quarter of 2026.
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, in a statement to the media, confirmed that the state budget (APBN) deficit reached IDR 240.1 trillion by the end of March 2026, equivalent to 0.93% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
According to the Finance Minister, this significant early-year deficit is a direct result of “accelerating government spending.”
“I aim to create a scenario where government spending growth is distributed almost evenly throughout the year. We must avoid the pattern of previous years, where spending was concentrated at the year-end, leading to suboptimal economic impact,” he explained, outlining the strategic shift.
“Therefore, the large deficit is a logical consequence of our policy,” Sadewa affirmed, linking the current financial situation to deliberate government strategy.
He further noted that while spending is largely distributed, “BGN stands out because its budget is indeed substantial,” subtly acknowledging the agency’s significant financial allocations.
