
The late Juwono Sudarsono, former Indonesian Defense Minister, was laid to rest with full military honors at the Kalibata Heroes’ Cemetery in South Jakarta on Sunday, March 29. The solemn ceremony was marked by deep respect, as the nation paid its final tributes to a distinguished figure.
As observed by kumparan at the scene, the hearse carrying the former minister’s coffin arrived at approximately 11:20 AM WIB. Draped in the revered Red and White Indonesian flag, the coffin was transported towards the burial site, accompanied by an impeccably organized honor guard marching in a disciplined procession, signifying the profound reverence for his service.
Upon its arrival, the air was filled with the ceremonial music performed by a marching band, adding a poignant backdrop to the unfolding procession. While an emotional atmosphere permeated the burial grounds, the entire sequence of the ceremony proceeded with remarkable order and deep solemnity, reflecting the gravitas of the occasion.
Among the mourners gathered at the cemetery, a host of prominent state officials and high-ranking military personnel were present, all offering their final respects to the esteemed former minister.

Notable attendees included the incumbent Defense Minister, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, alongside Deputy Defense Minister Donny Pramono, and Deputy Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), Tandyo Budi Revita, among other distinguished figures from government and the armed forces.
Prior to the interment, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, officiating as the ceremony inspector, led the significant “Apel Persada” (Roll Call to the Homeland) ritual. This deeply symbolic act underscores the nation’s gratitude and farewell.
“I, the Defense Minister of the Republic of Indonesia, on behalf of the state, the nation, and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), hereby dedicate the soul, body, and services of the deceased to our motherland. Prof. Dr. Juwono Sudarsono, who served as Indonesian Defense Minister in the United Indonesia Cabinet during the periods of 1999-2000 and 2004-2009, son of the late Mr. Sudarsono, passed away for the welfare and honor of the state and nation on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 1:45 PM WIB in Jakarta. May the path of devoted service he pursued become an exemplary model for all of us, and may his soul find the best place in the presence of Almighty God,” stated Sjafrie, his words resonating with profound respect and hope.

As the burial ceremony approached its conclusion, the coffin was gently and reverently lowered from the hearse. A contingent of soldiers then meticulously carried it with utmost dignity and care towards the prepared grave, ensuring a respectful final journey for the deceased.
Juwono Sudarsono passed away on Saturday, March 28, at approximately 1:45 PM WIB at Pondok Indah Hospital in Jakarta. He is survived by his beloved wife and two children, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated service to Indonesia.

Earlier, the esteemed statesman’s body had been laid in state at the “Ruang Hening” (Silence Room) within the Ministry of Defense office in Central Jakarta, starting from 8:00 AM WIB. As a mark of profound sorrow and respect for the passing of the former minister, the Ministry of Defense displayed flags at half-mast, a traditional symbol of national mourning.
Subsequently, a solemn farewell ceremony was conducted at the “Bela Negara” Field, also located within the Ministry of Defense complex, at 10:45 AM WIB. Following this dignified tribute, the convoy then proceeded to the Kalibata Heroes’ Cemetery for the final interment, completing a series of heartfelt farewells for a cherished national figure.
