Dodi S Abdulkadir, the legal counsel for former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, also known as Gus Yaqut, has issued a statement following the conversion of his client’s detention into house arrest. Gus Yaqut had been held by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in connection with an alleged hajj quota corruption case.
Abdulkadir indicated that he was not privy to the specific considerations that led the KPK to grant the request for detention transfer for Gus Yaqut. Nevertheless, he emphasized that the entire process of transferring his client’s detention adhered strictly to all applicable procedures and regulations.
“Naturally, the KPK possesses the most comprehensive understanding regarding the considerations for determining house arrest for Mr. Yaqut. All procedures for the transfer have been met in accordance with the stipulated provisions,” Dodi affirmed when contacted on Monday, March 23.
Dodi further highlighted that throughout the ongoing legal process with the KPK, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas has consistently demonstrated a cooperative stance.
“It is important to note that Mr. Yaqut has always been cooperative and actively supported the KPK‘s efforts in law enforcement,” he stated. He added, “Gus Yaqut has consistently been cooperative and complied with all legal stipulations, including the ongoing legal process at the KPK. Therefore, his legal advisor is confident that Gus Yaqut will fulfill all established obligations.”

The KPK had previously converted Gus Yaqut‘s detention from the KPK detention center to house arrest on Thursday, March 19. This change was initiated following a formal request from his family, submitted on March 17, 2026.
The request for detention transfer was subsequently approved, based on considerations outlined in Article 108 paragraphs (1) and (11) of Law Number 20 of 2025 concerning the Criminal Procedure Code.
This detention transfer is valid for a specific, predetermined duration. During this period of house arrest, the KPK will maintain stringent inherent supervision and security measures over Gus Yaqut.
