Police have arrested MY (31), a man from Tanjung Batu, Kundur District, Karimun Regency, in connection with the fatal stabbing of his former girlfriend, identified as AS (22), in Batam. The tragic incident unfolded at a residence in the Family Dream Housing complex, Nongsa District, on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
According to Barelang Police Chief Commissioner Besar Anggoro Wicaksono, the Batam murder was reportedly sparked by intense jealousy. The suspect, MY, was deeply resentful upon discovering that the victim had started a new relationship.
Commissioner Anggoro further revealed that MY had only been in Batam for approximately one week, having previously worked in Bali. During initial questioning, the suspect admitted to having been in a relationship with the victim for about seven months. This relationship, however, had already ended prior to the fatal confrontation.
MY also claimed that during their long-distance relationship, he had repeatedly sent money to AS. This money was purportedly used to purchase a motorcycle and assist the victim in settling her debts. Police stated that the suspect had actively sought information about the victim’s whereabouts from several friends in Batam, through whom he eventually learned about her new partner.
On Tuesday morning, around 08:00 WIB (Western Indonesian Time), MY began trailing AS. He initially intended to attack her at an Indomaret minimarket but abandoned the plan due to the crowded location. The suspect then resumed his search for the victim, briefly losing her trail.
Undeterred, MY resorted to tracking the victim’s location using the shared location feature she had previously sent him via WhatsApp. This digital trail led him directly to a house in the Family Dream Housing complex. Upon arriving at the residence, the suspect armed himself with a piece of wood embedded with nails and a large stone.
Entering the house, he was confronted with the sight of AS embracing AB, who was identified as her new partner. Enraged by the scene, MY immediately launched a brutal assault on both individuals using the spiked wood. Police further revealed that the suspect then fatally stabbed AS using a kitchen knife he had reportedly prepared beforehand.
The violent attack tragically resulted in two victims: AS succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while AB sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Bhayangkara Riau Islands Regional Police Hospital for urgent medical attention. Residents reported the harrowing incident to the Nongsa Police Precinct around 10:45 WIB.
“Officers promptly responded to the scene to secure the area and commence investigations,” stated Commissioner Anggoro. Remarkably, just a few hours after the deadly attack, the suspect presented himself at the Barelang Police Headquarters and surrendered.
Commissioner Pol M Debby Tri Andrestian, Head of the Barelang Police Criminal Investigation Unit, confirmed that MY was immediately taken into custody and underwent questioning. “He came to the Police Station by himself and turned himself in,” Debby added, highlighting the suspect’s voluntary surrender in this jealousy-fueled killing incident.
