Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a powerful joint statement with Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates, has strongly condemned Israel’s recent actions. These actions include Israel’s declaration of land it occupies in the West Bank as ‘state land’, coupled with the registration of land ownership in these areas for the first time since 1967.
According to Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as cited from its official X account, @Kemlu_RI, on Tuesday, these measures represent “an illegal step that precipitates an escalation of illicit occupation activities, land confiscation, and further consolidates Israeli control. It fundamentally applies a legally flawed Israeli sovereignty over Palestinian territories and disregards the fundamental rights of Palestinians.”
The participating ministers collectively agreed that this move constitutes a blatant violation of international law, particularly contravening the Fourth Geneva Convention. Furthermore, it directly breaches various UN Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2334, which explicitly condemns all Israeli attempts to alter the demographic composition of the occupied Palestinian territories.
The Indonesian Foreign Ministry emphasized that such steps are perceived as an attempt to establish a new legal and administrative reality, primarily aimed at solidifying control over the occupied territories. This policy, they asserted, has the potential to undermine the two-state solution, severely erode the prospects for establishing an independent and sustainable Palestinian state, and ultimately jeopardize the achievement of a just and comprehensive peace across the region.
The ministers unequivocally reaffirmed their strong rejection of all unilateral measures designed to alter the legal, demographic, and historical status of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
They viewed these policies as a dangerous escalation with the potential to heighten tensions and instability not only within the Occupied Palestinian Territory but also across the wider region.
Moreover, the ministers issued a resolute call to the international community, urging it to assume its responsibility by taking clear and decisive steps to halt these violations. This includes ensuring unwavering respect for international law and safeguarding the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, most notably their fundamental right to self-determination, the right to end the occupation, and the right to establish an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
