YOGYAKARTA – The anticipated surge in passenger traffic during the extended Chinese New Year long weekend holiday began to be significantly felt at Daop 6 Yogyakarta stations as early as Saturday, February 14.
Indonesian railway operator KAI reported a substantial increase, recording at least 51,105 passengers arriving at and departing from the Daop 6 Yogyakarta area. This total comprised 28,918 passengers arriving, while 22,187 passengers departed from various stations within the Daop 6 operational zone.
Feni Novida Saragih, Public Relations Manager for KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, highlighted that this weekend saw a notable surge in passenger numbers compared to typical weekends. She elaborated, “This particular long weekend was extended due to additional collective leave days and a national holiday, making it an opportune time for many families to take vacations.”
According to Saragih, Yogyakarta City consistently draws visitors, serving as a powerful tourist magnet due to its comprehensive tourism offerings. These include diverse natural attractions, enriching educational tourism sites, and vibrant shopping centers, catering to a wide range of interests.
Saragih further attributed the heightened passenger movement to factors such as robust safety measures, guaranteed comfort, punctuality, and the consistently improving services provided by Daop 6 Yogyakarta. These elements collectively build passenger confidence and satisfaction.
To effectively accommodate this significant surge in passengers, KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta proactively introduced additional train services in the region. These supplementary trains included the KA Gajayana tambahan, an extra train serving the Yogyakarta-Gambir (round trip) route, the KA Batavia, and the KA Sancaka Fakultatif, ensuring greater capacity and flexibility for travelers during the busy holiday period.
