jpnn.com, MEKKAH – Indonesia’s fifth President and current Chairperson of the Central Executive Board of the PDI Perjuangan (PDIP), Megawati Soekarnoputri, undertook the sacred Umrah pilgrimage with her family in the Holy Land on Saturday, February 14th. The esteemed delegation commenced their spiritual journey by heading to Masjid Tan’im, also widely known as Masjid Aisyah, to don their ihram and take miqat. This significant mosque is strategically located approximately 7 kilometers from the revered Masjidil Haram in Mecca.
During this spiritual expedition, Megawati was accompanied by her son, M. Prananda Prabowo, who also serves as a Chairperson of the PDIP Central Executive Board, along with his wife, Nancy Prananda. Her daughter, Puan Maharani, currently the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, was also part of the pilgrimage. Further strengthening the delegation were Ahmad Basarah, PDIP Chairperson for Foreign Affairs, and Zuhairi Misrawi, Indonesia’s Ambassador to Tunisia and a non-active PDIP Chairperson for Religious Affairs.
Upon completing the miqat ritual, the group proceeded to the Royal Guest House, which provides a direct entrance to the majestic Masjidil Haram. There, they collectively performed the Ashar prayer, preparing themselves for the subsequent series of Umrah rituals that lay ahead.
The timing of this particular Umrah pilgrimage for Megawati and her family holds profound significance, as it coincides with the period leading up to the holy month of Ramadan. Zuhairi Misrawi emphasized that this synchronicity imbues the pilgrimage with a unique and special meaning for the entire entourage.

“Therefore, this Umrah is exceptionally meaningful and carries significant importance as we look forward to welcoming the holy month of Ramadan,” Zuhairi eloquently stated, underscoring the spiritual weight of their journey.
He further elaborated that amidst their sacred observances, Megawati and her family intend to offer heartfelt prayers and supplications to Almighty God. These earnest prayers, according to Zuhairi, are specifically for divine strength and wisdom in their continuous struggle and dedicated contributions towards the beloved nation.
“Mrs. Megawati and her family will supplicate to God Almighty for strength and wisdom in striving and building our cherished nation,” he added, highlighting the patriotic essence of their prayers.
Zuhairi revealed that the pinnacle of this Umrah pilgrimage will be a special prayer led by Megawati herself. This deeply personal prayer will be dedicated to a myriad of revered national figures, the extensive family of the PDI Perjuangan party, and indeed, all citizens of Indonesia.
