Daop 1 Jakarta is experiencing a significant surge in long-distance train passenger volume as H-2 Lebaran 2026 approaches. On Thursday, March 19, 2026, the number of passengers departing from various stations within the Daop 1 Jakarta area reached an impressive 52,330 individuals.
Franoto Wibowo, Public Relations Manager for KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, provided a detailed breakdown, indicating that Pasar Senen Station was the busiest departure point, serving 18,852 passengers. Close behind, Gambir Station saw 16,845 passengers, while Bekasi Station facilitated the journeys of 8,976 individuals.
Wibowo noted that these figures are dynamic and expected to rise further throughout the day, emphasizing the high demand for travel during this peak season.
“On March 19, the number of passengers traveling for mudik (exodus) or departing is quite high. This morning, 52,330 tickets have already been sold for departures from Pasar Senen, Gambir, and other stations in the Daop 1 Jakarta area,” Franoto told reporters at Pasar Senen Station in Jakarta on Thursday, March 19, 2026.
The previous day, on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, passenger numbers were even higher, reaching 53,576. Consistent with the trend, Pasar Senen Station recorded the highest number of departures on that day as well.
He added, referencing the previous day’s data, “Yesterday, on the 18th, the provisional figure was 53,576 travelers or passengers departing for mudik, with Pasar Senen Station accounting for the majority, followed by Gambir, and then Bekasi.”
Based on daily trends, Wibowo projected that passenger volumes would continue to climb as ticket sales remain robust.
Detailing this further, he explained that the initial count of 52,330 for March 19 typically sees an increase of between 500 and 1,000 passengers by midnight.
KAI’s broader data revealed that from March 11 to March 19, 2026, the cumulative passenger count for departures reached 430,977 people. Furthermore, total tickets sold for the entire Lebaran transport period, spanning March 11 to April 1, 2026, stand at 756,929, indicating an impressive average occupancy rate of 70 percent.
In anticipation of this significant surge in passengers, KAI has implemented various service measures, including the deployment of additional on-site personnel to ensure smooth operations.
He confirmed, stating, “During this Lebaran transportation period, we have prepared personnel, service officers, and even management from headquarters and the Daop area to assist with services.”
Beyond service staff, KAI has also deployed hundreds of security personnel to ensure the comfort and safety of all passengers throughout their journeys.
Wibowo provided further details on the comprehensive measures, stating, “To direct services, we have extra staff, including Mobile Customer Service. For parking flow, we have ‘service excellent’ officers to manage it. Furthermore, we have additional security personnel. To ensure safety and comfort in the Daop 1 Jakarta area, we have prepared and deployed over 700 security personnel, including assistance (BKO) from the TNI-Polri (Indonesian military and police).”
Looking ahead to the post-Lebaran period, Franoto highlighted ample ticket availability, offering flexibility for those planning their return journeys.
He elaborated, “Tickets from March 23 until April 1 are very much available. So, for the period from tomorrow until April 1, a total of over 300,000 tickets are still on offer.”
To further meet passenger demand, KAI has also introduced additional services, including seven supplementary train journeys from Pasar Senen and 13 extra services from Gambir.
Franoto specified, “For this Lebaran transportation period, Pasar Senen Station will see 7 additional Lebaran train services. Furthermore, there are 4 free motorcycle transport train services organized by the Ministry of Transportation.”
Given the strong public interest in train travel, KAI advises prospective passengers to plan their journeys well in advance and take advantage of ticket availability during less congested periods to ensure a comfortable and timely trip.
