Following the excitement for Ghost in the Cell, here are four films directed by Joko Anwar that have showcased Endy Arfian’s talent.

1. Pengabdi Setan (Satan’s Slaves) (2017)

Pengabdi Setan, or Satan’s Slaves, tells the chilling story of Rini (Tara Basro), who lives with her grandmother Rahma Saidah (Elly D Luthan), her mother Mawarni (Ayu Laksmi), her father Bahri (Bront Palarae), and her three younger brothers: Tony (Endy Arfian), Bondi (Nasar Anuz), and Ian (Muhammad Adhiyat). The family is grappling with severe financial difficulties, having exhausted all their savings on Mawarni’s critical illness. Confined to her bed, Mawarni could only ring a bell to summon her husband or children for help.

Tragically, Mawarni passes away after a 3.5-year battle with her illness. After her death, the father leaves for the city to find work, leaving Rini and her siblings vulnerable. At home, Rini’s family begins to experience increasingly disturbing supernatural occurrences, culminating in their grandmother’s death by falling into a well. Following these traumatic events, Rini and her brothers embark on a quest to uncover the dark secrets plaguing their family.

2. Pengabdi Setan 2: Communion (Satan’s Slaves 2: Communion) (2022)

Pengabdi Setan 2: Communion continues the harrowing narrative several years after Rini’s (Tara Basro) family narrowly escaped the terrifying events of the first film. After the tragic loss of their mother (Ayu Laksmi) and youngest brother Ian (Muhammad Adhiyat), Rini, along with her other brothers, Toni (Endy Arfian) and Bondi (Nasar Anuz), and their father (Bront Palarae), decide to move into an apartment complex. They hope to start a new chapter and leave the horrific past behind.

However, their aspirations for a peaceful life quickly prove to be a pipe dream. Life for Rini, her siblings, and their father in the apartment complex is far from normal. Further investigation reveals that their mother still has a demonic pact, which continues to plague their family’s existence. Not only are they tormented by supernatural disturbances, but now deadly terrors claiming human lives begin to relentlessly descend upon Rini’s family.

3. Pengepungan di Bukit Duri (Blockade at Duri Hill) (2025)

Pengepungan di Bukit Duri (Blockade at Duri Hill) delves into the aftermath of the 2009 riots, which left deep scars on the life of Edwin (Morgan Oey). Edwin, a man of Chinese descent, now works as a teacher at Duri High School, a school notorious for its troubled students. Yet, Edwin’s purpose in teaching extends beyond academics; he is secretly searching for his missing nephew, fulfilling a promise made to his late brother. However, this quest proves to be fraught with challenges, far more difficult than he ever imagined.

As riots erupt once more, spreading throughout the city, Edwin’s identity makes him a prime target for danger. Trapped within the school alongside three others – fellow teacher Diana (Hana Pitrashata Malasan) and two students, Kristo (Endy Arfian) and Rangga (Fatih Unru) – they find themselves in a perilous situation. Ironically, one of the students, Jefri (Omara Esteghlal), who should have offered protection, instead leads the siege against them. Tensions escalate, transforming the school from a place of learning into a desperate arena for survival.

4. Ghost in the Cell (2026)

Ghost in The Cell is set in the notorious Labuhan Angsana prison, a facility known for its brutal conditions. The prison houses a diverse group of inmates with varied troubled backgrounds, including Anggoro (Abimana Aryasatya) and Six (Yoga Pratama). Within its walls, prisoners contend with daily struggles such as internecine feuds among themselves and relentless intimidation from the prison officers.

One day, a new inmate named Dimas (Endy Arfian) arrives at the prison. Rumors circulate that this seemingly unassuming figure mutilated his boss. Following Dimas’s arrival, inmates begin to die one by one in gruesome ways. It becomes terrifyingly clear that Dimas has brought a malevolent entity that is the true cause of these horrific deaths. Those who have been placed in Labuhan Angsana prison are never known to leave intact, neither mentally nor physically.

The confined prison setting and the eerie silence of the facility create a truly chilling atmosphere. As the mass slaughter intensifies, both inmates and prison guards are forced to forge an uneasy alliance, working together in a desperate fight for survival against the escalating horror.

Having collaborated since 2017, Endy Arfian continues to be a go-to actor frequently cast in Joko Anwar’s films. Ghost in the Cell is scheduled to premiere in cinemas across Indonesia on April 16, 2026.
